Murdoch shaving foam attack guy gets 6 weeks in jail

Completely excessive. I know a guy who hit an off duty cop with a buckfast bottle and got a suspended sentence.

That judge was out to make an example of the pie thrower. "Don't pie rich people" is the lesson we can take away from this.

I don't think it was a good idea to do what he did but a jail sentence is inappropriate when you consider what happened. I guess it's difficult to deliver an appropriate one when the whole world is watching.

Meh.

Sentencing is a practical joke on us all.

Jim Devine, one of the Labour MP thieves, was let out a 1/4 way through his sentence having served 16 weeks for theft by false accounting with public money... (roughly a fortnight per £1,000 he stole)

"My arse" comes to mind.

Do you understand sentencing? If someone is sentenced to 2 years they do 1 year in prison and 1 year on licence (which is essentially "free" if you don't get into more trouble in that time). Never more than half is served inside.

Since prisons are overcrowded they release low risk prisoners HDC (ankle tag) half way through their prison time, so you end up with a 1/4 of the total sentence spent inside.

It's only three weeks. Not really surprising as the he interrupted a high profile House of Commons Select Committee. Inagine if that had been in a courtroom.

Any custodial for that is utterly ludicrous, and makes our judicial system look a complete farcical.

Oh wait..... it IS!!

Never mind the youth with 63 convictions who gets a suspended sentence AGAIN, or the serial shop lifters, or the regulars who are up for assault all the time, who all avoid a custodial, JAIL SOMEONE FOR A SHAVING FOAM PIE TRICK.

Its lunacy, and makes the Judge who sentenced look a complete moron. Who was the sentencing judge btw?

Utterly embarrassing.

exactly, sad, sad, sad....

this country is becoming a bad joke

"She said she had also taken into account the fear of injury Mr Murdoch would have experienced, as he did not know what was in the pie."

lol

He attached a 82 year old man, if it was my granddad I would want him to spend 6 weeks+ in jail

Tbh, if I was sat beside my Grandad and somebody hit him in the face with a shaving foam pie, I'd have done a lot more than Murdoch junior did standing and gawping. Even an itty bitty asian woman flies into action quicker than him.

Yes I know, it's mostly all a farse because we can't give out the punishments we deal.

The concept of good behavior inside from a prisoner sentenced for a lets say more "civil" crime leading to a risk assesment - HDC - weighted towards violent and severe crimes in conjunction with the original discount, in this case, is silly.

I don't think that is sending out the right signal, and certainly looks hollow in retrospect to the middle of that debacle. I know what the problems are, but we've never had anyone fix it apart from bringing in more get out of jail free schemes sadly.

What I wanted to know when I originally watched the video is the hell is that woman who's really giving it some once it kicks off?
