My 2001 Mondeo I bought 12 months ago for ~1.4k is on 140k miles and unfortunately the clutch pretty much shot.

Replacing the clutch and dual-mass flywheel is a £700 job.

What do you guys think is the best course of action here? The car has a 13month MOT, and so one plan was to replace it with a £1200 car, and try and sell this one for ~£700 to someone with the time to do the clutch cheaper.

However for obvious reasons that's looking marginal - selling a car with a shot clutch is going to be a challenge, 13month MOT or not, and buying another £1200 car brings along further risks.

Thoughts?

If you are happy with the ,car get it changed, they can be done for a lot less than 700 though if you are willing to switch to a non DMF.

A very quick ebay search shows a lambda sensor and MAF can both be bought for a total of between £60 and £100.

As said the clutch can be done a lot cheaper if you go single mass

Or dont change the flywheel at all?

This is where my knowledge fails. What are the pros/cons of not changing the flywheel, or going single-mass? Presumiably ford put a DMF in there for a reason? But would a SMF actually be worse?

Or could I get the car apart and see the DMF doesn't need changing at all?

I have no idea...
