Bought a car from a dealer, turned out there was no tax on it

What if you have tax (bought online) but the disc hasn't arrived in the post yet and you drive through a ANPR camera?

Nah I wussed out :( Went for a Celica VVTLi 190 in the end. Had a Corolla Tsport before but the Lift on this seems to hit much harder, which is strange because the car has nearly twice the number of miles on it!

No I don't think they did anything wrong. It might have been nice for them to mention it, but it's not illegal or dodgy I don't think. I always factor road tax in when I am bartering on a price. If you know your going to have to pay £100+/£200+ before you even get in the thing then you need to be aware of that in your budget.

One thing that just crossed my mind though. Did you test the car on the road with the expired tax before you bought it?

The ANPR doesn't look for the disc, it checks the database.

Besides you have 7 days (IIRC) grace after purchasing online to put a disc on.

No you don't, this only applies if the tax is paid for online before the expiration of the existing tax or sorn.

Unless it was a really cheap car, you should haggle things like tyres and tax into your buying price
