Steam blames microsoft for constant dx installs

this and all the c++ distributable library's really annoy me, I don't have a grasp on how these things work but why do I have to have 2005, 2008 and 2010 librarys installed? isnt there a better solution? I don't really notice the dx installs though but it does bug me when I want just the latest versions and nothing else.

I've noticed all this C++ **** getting installed too on my system. Uninstalled the lot of them and everything works fine.

I'm sure it's not beyond Steams development team to actually to a DX query and then install what's missing if it's required. They can blame Microsoft all they want but I know when I play a none-Steam game it doesn't reinstall DX before playing.

Each game comes bundled with the software extras you need individually. It seems every other game these days installs those bloody c++ libraries!

They will only update missing components not install a seperate instance each time... that said not sure why the dependency on it most game developers seem to manage fine without :S.

I install plenty of games from DVD and they do install Direct X again.

It's never bothered me a huge amount, only takes a few seconds for me, and it's only the first time you run something.

I know why it's done, they're not just doing it to troll users. :p

bill gates is defo trolling :D

Yeah doesnt bother me so much either as it's not taking ages. Just thought id post it as people seem to moan about it quite a lot.

They should put DX and the C++ dist's in the 'Tools' section. One check if they're installed and the game loads up.

Instead of each game needing them to be installed again

That's due to the install script rather than DX. As I said if you have a game installed and run it - it doesn't go through a DX install everytime.

Yes DVD games may well reinstall DX but that's due to the lazyness of the install writers rather than a DX issue.

With the dvd games I have installed, they give you a option to install direct x. Some of them even detect if direct x is already installed and tell you.

When I install a steam game, direct x installs every time and usually takes about 2-3 minutes. It is annoying but I think its a symptom of not having a setup.exe therefore no dx check.

I get this every time i launch sf4 arcade edition:

Only appears for a couple of secs, annoying though.

Steam wallet you mean?

Not sure if you can gift credit when you buy it actually. :o

No dont think you can gift it unfortunately. Usually just a case of emailing the gift on the day when I could just gift card it. Also be good for kids gaming on pc being able to spend money on cards rather then using mum and dads. Just an idea so please nobody shoot me down! anyways back to the topic :)
