WRONG!

When I bought a boxed copy of Lord of The Rings Online, I had an option of either downloading the client either through codemasters, or a torrent.

Codemasters service was absolute tripe, and I downloaded it through the torrent. This was fully allowed by Codemasters and was advised on their forums to do this if having difficulty with downloading the game.

They need to block the source at the top of who is providing the content. For example, torrent sites. Even if they are providing legal material they are still assisting in the download of illegal material.

I've downloaded more legit software through torrents than any other means. Game patches, ISOs for freeware software such as various Linux distros etc.

You no fine well people use torrents for illegal material and very few use torrents for legal material.

They should not ban Google, however they should ask Google to control their search results e.t.c what can and what can't be searched. For example Torrents, porn, hacking e.t.c.

Companies spend hundreds of thousands of £ combatting piracy and focusing on the success or failure of a release based on how widely pirated it is.

They forget that the success or failure of a release isn't based on how many people pirate it but actually how many people:

A) Buy it in the shops, a serial pirate is NOT going to be buying it even if he or she cannot pirate it.
B) Like it and tell their friends about it.

A lot of companies (games publishers as of late) have been focusing on fighting piracy via obscene antipiracy measures (UBISOFT COUGH COUGH) and calling it a success because that new protection is unbreakable but stuff like that just hurts legitimate buyers who get cheesed off and in future think twice about buying stuff from the same publisher.

Piracy cannot be fought, it cannot be stopped and will continue forever. The last 20 or so years of fighting piracy has not resulted in a single case of it dropping considerably so it's just a waste of money.

I reckon if these companies want to make money then they should stop wasting money attempting to fight cases in court and installing expensive antipiracy measures that don't actually work or are bypassed within days by hackers and instead spend that money on better marketing and stuff.

I find it really annoying when people have strong opinions on subjects beyond their understanding.

Realise you don't get law, and move on.

E.G. My friend has a CD and I ask to borrow it to listen to.

I stick the CD into my PC, add it to my media library then give it back.

Who have I stolen a CD from? The friend got his / her CD back, I didnt steal it from a store, and wouldnt have bought a copy anyway.

Pretty much every single person I have ever known has at least copied a CD from someone else, I cant believe that iDroid never has.

Your still stealing the product that isn't yours. I think the Theft Act regarding digital media needs to be looked at as I disagree and I am entitled to an opinion so back off.

Don't get me wrong some people do use it legally. I am one that does and I buy all my content that I use regardless of if it's digital or actual products.

I've never looked for a torrent for something that could be purchased. Most people who do that really wouldnt have paid for it. The 'Pay whatever you want' things that a lot of indies games and some other stuff have been doing is very evident for this.

There was a case once where something (cant remember if it was a game or music) was put up for a legally free download by its author, but it still continued being pirated.

I find it really annoying when people like you don't listen to anyone but themselves and the people who created the law because they think they are always right.

As I said it's my opinion that it's theft and I still think it's theft as stated.
