Hi guys,

As per title, can get this cheap (£220, sim free, brand new) and it seems rather nice but wondered have any of you used one, whats it like?

Also, when MS release Mango, can all WP7 phones update to Mango or do we have to rely on HTC etc for it?

Cheers :)

Yep all phones will get mango automatically, no waiting for the manufacturer to sort it out.

Didn't Samsung have that big kerfuffle with NoDo? ;) (3 month delay for the focus) Updates are still manufacturer dependant, it's not like desktop Windows yet :p

The HTC 7 Pro looks v.solid if you don't mind a thick/heavy phone, I think I'd take one over the Optimus 7.

Afaik that was a specific issue with some Omnia 7s. The update bricked a few so MS stopped the updates for Samsung phones to sort it out. It was nothing like Android updates where the manufacturers are in the driving seat.

Thanks for the info guys.

I would like a keyboard as I'm used to using Blackberrys, and I kinda like a heavier phone as it feels more solid if you know what I mean.

I missed the boat on the £220, the rainforest place have increased it to £246! still cheap though?

How are you guys enjoying WP7? Worth a punt?

Anyone know about Handtec?

Cheers :)

The phone isn't bad, still feels like a step down in every way from my sonyericsson X1 but as it only cost £200 I'm not too bothered.

I'd imagine he means the smaller screen, thicker body and poorer camera.

My little brother has one and seems to really like it. The battery isn't /amazing/ mind, and it seems to run a little hot at times, but the thickness isn't a huge problem and the keyboard seems good from when I used it. I like the WP7 ethos; if you're used to blackberry's as I am you'll like it.

The only thing I'll say is that WP7 doesn't have Whatsapp, so there's no BBM alternative other than FB messages at the moment, so when abroad you might struggle.

Can you use Windows live messenger etc? Or Google Talk? I don't do Facebook

I have the HD7, and love it. The updates are carrier dependant, not manufacturer. Its a bit lacking on features, but when mango comes out, it will be a force to reckon with. The feature list is very extensive. I love the live tiles on the home screen. Even the size of the screen on mine makes browsing so easy!

So if I'm buying the handset sim free, I guess the updates will still come down through my current network?

Also can you use Windows Live Messenger etc on it?

Cheers :)

Nope, sim free it shouldn't matter who your carrier is, you'll get the generic update via Zune as soon as it's released. :)

As for Live Messenger not at the moment, although there is a program on the marketplace at the moment that allows you to aggregate all your messenger services. Whatsapp should be coming soon after Mango and I'm guessing Skype will be available straight after. Live Messenger will be integrated into the Mango release.

Thanks Amp :)

I'm stuck between this, BB9900, iPhone 4 or iPhone5? This is about £250 cheaper than the others, and with Mango coming soon, it should be a great handset :)

That's because its £250 less worth of phone compared to the i5/9900. It's a year old, it's OK but nothing amazing, I guess a firm middle ground. Updates are carrier dependent if it was brought via a network, not dependent if brought SIM free.

Surely If you can afford £500-£600 for the iPhone £200 is no problem for a stopgap? :p

Just go into a shop and try one out, also check out the Palm Pre 2 for £130-£145, amazing bargain if you like qwerty smartphones :)
