Howdy,

I start college again in mid september and I wish to go on a holiday before then, I have seen cheap deals to Gambia...

anyone been? I really like adventure holidays and exploring new places, i havent really been to any off the beaten track places before.

I fear it might be a little like Egypt? Resorts and not much else?

Any other recomendations appreciated.

Thanks

Briefly talked to a mates mum about it the other week.

Apparently, its the hotspot for lonely middle aged-older women to get their rocks off with some young African toy boys.

Still, might be an adventure ;)

That's kinda what my Mum said as well. It isn't safari country though, but there is some great wildlife to be seen. It was pretty resorty though from what she said. Maybe try Kenya?

I went to gambia 2 years ago just before christmas. Im glad I went, but I would never go back.

Moment you leave the hotel you are constantly harassed by locals. And as others say you get older women going for their african toy boys. A nasty site indeed.

On the plus side you get sunshine all year round, and they have a famous crocodile named Charlie who likes foreigners. You can stroke him, sit on his back and feed him dead chickens

Apparently it's also the place to go for the older "gentlemen" who like "younger" girls as well...

On the other hand I went with my ex a couple of years ago and it was quite nice. Wouldn't call it particularly touristy because all it is is a few hotels along the seafront and a third world country everywhere else... Once you leave the Hotels and surrounding area however no one bothers you. You can't walk along the beach without a hanger onner either so no ideas of romantic walks...

If you like wildlife however it is really nice, loads of birds and side trips to go on. Just be warned though, setember is rainy season, which is why it's cheap. On the other hand even when it rains its still hot. It rained a lot when we were there but the only day it was a pain was when we did a canoe trip (it tipped it down). Much like other tropical countries its either pouring with electrical storms or beautifully sunny. It's not like the rain affected our pool antics because the water and air was so warm.

So yeah, typical poor country, hotels not quite the standard of the west (remember 5* "african standard"), pestering etc. and squaler when you leave the hotel. Nice place though and a lot of people are repeat travellers.
