*****Official Star Wars: The Old Republic Thread*****

After watching all the videos for Guild Wars 2 I think I will be playing that instead of this as it does really just look like a wow clone in the star wars universe. But, I haven't played it yet I have only watched the hour long video of someone playing it. And it looked like wow.

Thanks, bye!

There will NEVER be a open beta, in September they will have a series of weekends where people are invited to play, it may even go as far as being 3 weekends of open beta, but never a proper open beta like other games have ... they say its because there is such a high demand ..I say its because they worried about there product.

And I think they have a very good reason to be worried .. but hey you never know....

There is no open beta, why is that a reason for concern?

I think they just want to try and limit the amount of spoilers and youtube vids of the story your going to get.

There is nothing new in this game its just like 20 other mmo out there except its called Star Wars.

VO while this may be the first FULL VO thats does not make it unique ..its just means it takes u 5 times a long to pick up a quest.

The Combat ( except for the trooper and Jedi) is very stagnant ( only reason I add the Jedi is it has the combat leap which is fun for a bit)

So besides VO this game brings nothing new to the genre and a lot that it's copied is not done very well.

There is not much you can be certain about but one thing I will lay my bottom dollar on this game will Not be the next big thing, yes they may sell a record number of copies as a really high price. But they will not hold the the subs, not saying this game will flop, but it sure as hell is not gonna topple any MMO after the first free month.

As for the fabled story line thats about maybe at best 10% of your leveling experience the rest is the normal grind .. done even worse than wow/lotor.

Yo....

One thing that sets this apart from any other mmo?

It's freaking star wars dude!!!!! You know light sabres, leia's bikini, carbonite...

Yeah the combat looks clunky, yeah it looks like a massive quest session with little PVP focus.

But this is Bioware's first step into the MMO market and they have EA's big bucks behind them. It may be crap at launch but all us fanbois will nerd rage hard on the fourms and good things will happen.

lol :p (one of my favourite quotes on here for a while)

10% of your levelling experience? Are you sure you are in the beta? As someone who has gotten tired of all other MMOs, I found the story a breath of fresh air - plus, with the bonus quests, a lot of the usual "grind" is achieved simply by getting to your quest objective and you rarely have to go out of your way to achieve it.

you may find it a breath of fresh air it still only roughly 10% of your leveling maybe with the knock on quests a few more but it is not a big part, and you mostly have to get rid of all the rubbish quests first.

The Fanboi's will never admit the problems with the game ..and for me they the worst type for any game as with there blind following the Dev's never feel pushed to look at what they doing.

You say you in the beta if so go post something on the 840 forums and I will reply to it.

Sorry no I'm already pushing the NDA to the limit, that would be taking the mickey.

STAR WARS: The Old Republic > Game Test > Squadron 840
So, after this. Did you Preorder?

Is this on the official forums?

Only visible to the beta testers.

As someone who has very strong opinions on the beta and not favourable ones at that, I am surprised you even care about the NDA.

This tbh - he hates it so much, yet keeps playing, won't trade the account or break the NDA. I think wab enjoys it more than he is letting on.

ah ok, thought I couldn’t see it!

so in a nutshell everybody posting under that topic, is saying the game is ****?

erm no but a high percentage. added... very few say the game is sh!t but most say its not worth getting as it is now. not enough quests, no end game content to speak of, this added to everything else I have already said.

Please show me where I said I hate the game, I said its not near as good as it could have being and no different from 20 other mmo's out there... somewhere in your very closed fanboi mind you take what I say and turn it into me hating the game .. typical.

Should add I have the biggest guild in the beta right now ... well it was the last time I logged in but have not logged in for well over a week now. (I would say about 60% of the player base(republic)) is in this guild.

To be honest guys nothing Wab has said should really come as a surprise given what we know about the game. It's no secret it's a traditional mmo down to the ground, and how much you get out of it will probably depend almost entirely on how much of a kick you get out of the star wars vibe.

There's definite falling-for-the-hype going on big time in here. It's exactly like the Warhammer Online thread a month before release. Or the Aion one. Or the Age of Conan one, for that matter. There will always be people who for some strange reason pin their entire future happiness on the next big mmo being something that will transform their lives, and they're always the ones complaining the loudest when it turns out to be just another kill-ten-rats game in a new skin.

They're also the ones getting agressive and confrontational when someone dares to suggest it might not be the best thing ever to grace our computer screens, as if the person doing the suggesting is personally threatening them, instead of just voicing an honest opinion.

Perspective, folks.

Could not have said it better this is where I was pre beta.

I remember when I was in beta for DC Universe Online. It was pretty much the same like what wab is saying for SW:TOR. The main gripe for most of us was the chat and UI. The game content and quests were really good. Until of course they brought in that ridiculous patch a month before launch where everything became buggy and less fun.

But, in wab's defense, I will say that come launch, you can bet your top dollar that things will be better. SOE did it with DCUO and now the game is actually better than it was at launch. Yes, not many people are playing it right now, but with that many MMOs floating around, it's expected.

Also, wab, I wouldn't brag about the size of your guild. In beta for DCUO my league (at the time we were called BC Raiders) had over 250 members. By launch, we renamed the league to DC Raiders and had a registration process. We ended up with around 60 members. Now, we've merged with another league cos either people left or no one was playing the game properly and time wasting for those who wanted enjoy the game. So give it time, but eventually your guild will wittle down as time goes on. Other than that, I am still going to wait til pretty much after launch to see if this will be worth getting.

Most of the people I play DCUO with are raving about this game and will be going to it once it launches. So we'll see.

You miss my point about the guild size as I know its means zip when the game comes out..the point of the guild size was that I speak to tons of other players so have a good view of how others see the game.

And more to the point I have seen from having well over a 100 active players to it dropping down to 10/15 with the rest logging in once a week or so.

This guild has nothing to do with the actual guild I run as no one besides a few who joined from the beta guild are in my proper guild. (if that makes sense :D)

Should add I loved DCUO and only reason I quit was we proved a few people were cheating.. beyond any doubt... and they took zip action ..well except to delete all reference and ban me for a week from the web site ..decided after that I was not giving them my money.

Yes DCUO may have had loads of problems and not much to do but the open world PvP was huge fun.

And aye I know ur guild tho we were on different servers DC raiders had a very good raiding name.
