I am due to be going abroad for a weekend in 8 days but unfortunately broke my foot 4 days ago. The holiday was booked by a friend for him and I on his credit card through Expedia. Now Expedia are saying they cannot refund the money but I was just wondering what people think our chances are of getting the money back by claiming from the credit card company. My friend is going to look into this tomorrow but I was just wondering if people have any advice / similar experience of doing this.:(

Why would the credit card company refund you? The company have not wronged you or defrauded you. You've changed your mind and no longer wish to travel. Why didnt you buy travel insurance?

Yes I decided to break my foot. I've had an injury which means I will not be able to fly and certain credit card companies (so I am told) provide insurance for such things. I didn't make the booking hence why I didn't buy travel insurance. I always do when I travel. Thank you for your response.

Always have travel insurance if you are travelling irrespective of who has made the booking. Very few credit cards offer travel insurance - infact off the top of my head I can think of only Nationwide, and I think they've discontinued it. You've not bothered to tell us what card it is anyway.

You didn't decide to break your foot but neither did the airline break it for you either. And, to be fair, a broken foot does not come with an airline travel ban - you could still catch the flight, you've simply chosen not to.

Wooo just had a phone call from said friend and we are being refunded! He has free holiday insurance when paying with his credit card.:D

Gosh isn't that lucky!

And all without the doctors signature every travel insurance policy requires when cancelling on medical grounds!

Yes as long as I can provide doctors note they will refund. Which I already have.

And which credit card was this? The only credit cards that I can think of that include travel insurance will only cover the cardholder and their family, not random friends they decide to travel with.

Which credit card is it, out of interest?

I don't own a Vauxhall and have never done so.

LLoyds TSB gold card which apparently comes with free travel insurance.:D

Not according to Lloyds TSB it doesn't. Infact, it doesnt even exist anymore - the Platinum credit card has no such offer.

The Gold Current Account does, however, offer free travel insurance but cover is limited only to the policyholder and his partner.

Not his mate.

His Current Account insurance wont cover you. You are completely unrelated to him.

You and your partner are eligible provided you are both under 80 years of age, you are residents in the UK and your account remains open. You must tell us about any medical conditions that you are aware of affecting anyone covered under the policy. It is essential that you refer to the ‘Exclusions relating to your health’ section in the policy wording as failure to comply with these terms may jeopardise your claim cover - please refer to the policy documents for full details of the exclusions.

Seems Fox maybe correct. :D

Well he has just got off of the phone to them and that is what he has been told. I do admire how Fox is taking so much of his time and dedicating it to this thread. Thank you I genuinely mean that.

Some of the cards cover upto 5 travels travelling with the card holder, strange I know I cant quite remember which one It may be the Virgin Black amex

Fox, you would be surprised how many cards give free basic travel insurance, Natwest/RBS, HSBC, american express, Virgin well almost every major bank does on the premium cards.

Generally speaking most of them are not really very good policies, Natwest Black/ RBS black offer very very good cover, the amex platinum is also quite good as is the Marks & Spencer Premium Card.
