My EK blocks nickel flaking off.

We'll see.
As soon as my 6870 comes back from RMA, I'm sending my blocks off, and I'm forcing a refund, I haven't got the patience to wait for a product to become manufactured.

Why not ask them to give you some top end air coolers?
obviously, not the same, but it's something?

alas my GTX 470 block is corroding too, running on distilled and kill coil.

Is it detrimental to the system at all or is this an aesthetic problem?
Browsing their site I can't see EN plated 470 plexi blocks and this is what I need in my system. What to do...

Word from EK ;

Morning Martin,

Here is a Copy and Paste of the emails from EK so far after sending them the new higher res images you sent over on Wednesday:

Thursday Afternoon:

Hello,

I will talk to production manager and try to arrange EN plating for a block.

However I'd like that block back.

If it turns out it is not a corrosion or flaking we will not cover any costs.

Do you happen to know what liquid he has been running? A lot of white residue is to be seen on surface (at the edges) and this block has certainly been already tampered with.

If nickel got lost on threads, that may be due to friction between threads (yet, i have to see it). Please note, blocks are not chrome plated which would harden the surface.

Lep pozdrav/Best regards/MfG/Cordialement

Gregor Hribernik

Thursday Afternoon:

Hello,

Furthermore, what kind of polish has been used on this so far?

There are many many scratches all over the surface.

Lep pozdrav/Best regards/MfG/Cordialement

Friday Morning:

Hello,

By latest info, we will not machine any more of these blocks as items is going to be discontinued. Everything we have got is done by old plating.

Replacement is possible with any version we got in stock.

Lep pozdrav/Best regards/MfG/Cordialement

Etailor statement to me ;

Looking at it, they want to get that block back for testing but first of all it needs to come here so we can take a look ourself and we can then forward this on to EK after we have confirmed there is an issue with the plating. Looking at the images it doesnt actually look like corrosion, it looks like the block hasnt been plated fully towards the top and there seems to be copper showing through..

Please take lightly to the comment they made about the block being tampered with, their English isnt the best and what they will mean is that the block has been opened and cleaned.

Next stage, create an RMA on our system, send it back to us here and we'll then do our bit and deal with EK for you. Reading there last email a replacement in the Nickel EN isnt possible as this is an older product, so this block will be replaced with a brand new Nickel product.

Am i right in saying you have two of these products as there is two on your order ? Has only one been affected ?

RMA details will follow.

.....................

What'd you lot think? I don't think that's acceptable.

Basically they will replace it with another block using the same old rubbish process and its pot luck whether you get the issue again or not.

I replied with ;

I\'m not quite sure what\'s to happen, except I\'m to send off my two faulty blocks to you. How long will this take? I can\'t go too long, and I\'m not waiting on EK to manufacture a new product (As that\'s what the E-mails sound like).

They replied with ;

Martin,

We have no clue how long this will take, this is the first RMA we have had with the EN Nickel plating issue.

Once we confirm this is the corrosion problem, we need to send these back to EK who will then do their bit and inspect the product.. It's at their end when this could go either way.

Please note: warranty issues like this are not straight forward and can take longer than norma returns.

I replied with ;

EK, to be frank, sound like a bunch of jokers, and have tried weaselling their way out of this since day one. Mayhem (The one who makes the dye) agrees that this issue is with EK, his opinion is readily available over at OC3D\'s forum, which I\'ve read around, when googling the issue. My warranty is with you, I want this dealing with you, what happens between you and EK in regards to resolving the issue shouldn\'t affect me. Once my 6870 from ****** returns from RMA I\'ll have a watercooled GPU, I\'ll send off both of my 6870 blocks to you, from there, upon inspection from yourself, I\'d accept a credit note, as it\'d only go towards replacing these EK blocks anyway. I should not be put in a situation where I\'m reliant on a company not in the UK, with who I didn\'t buy from, they\'re seemingly not bound by UK Law and I don\'t trust them to actually do what they\'re meant to in this situation.

....................
But I meant aircooled, not watercooled :p

E-tailor responds ;

Martin,

We aren't interested in any one else's opinions, Mayhem will be defending his products like all liquid manufacturer's will be so he is some what bias towards EK and this Nickel publication.

Your 12 month warranty is indeed with us, we have never told you any different but since we have discontinued this product since you bought them from us we are unable to magic a replacement from thin air and have to therefor deal with the manufacturer on your behalf to obtain a warranty repair or replacement product for you.

As we have previously mentioned on numerous occasions, we don't issue credit notes on our system for customers, we don't have the ability to do so and with this order being back in 2010 a refund is no longer an option, this has to be dealt with under warranty.

We have raised the RMA with EK and the sooner these are back here (after you have raised the RMA on our system), the quicker this will move.

I know it's a bit inconvenient but I would just accept what they offered as they seem to be being quite helpful, as far as they are concerned the blocks are physically damaged and there's no way of them knowing if you did it or not, that's why they want EK to take a look.

What exactly have they offered? For me to RMA my blocks to them, which will then go to EK, which could take forever, and I have to accept another faulty nickel block?:p
