Looking at building a couple of pc's for my step son (10) and step daughter(11) for xmas.

looking at a budget of around £250 each, dont need OS,mouse or monitors,

thats what i have come up with so far, (the network adaptor I only need 1 as have one already), I dont trust the 450w psu that comes with the case, hence why I have a psu in the basket

any suggestions/conflicts/better items?? The most they are going to be used for is surfing, watching dvds and the odd facebook game, perhaps a bit of minecraft and a few older games. Can look at possibly getting a dedicated gfx card further down the line if they need a bit more grunt

yeah im hoping to spread the cost so looking to start ordering in the next week or two and pick up parts as I go, obviously I know the prices are subject to change. Just wanted to get a rough idea of if everything will work together or if it needs changing. :)

the parts your after are going to be getting a hell of a lot cheaper nearer christmas time because theres a new processor coming out in september time, and some new graphics cards coming out pretty soon after that too which promise to be a hell of a lot faster than the old ones. i'd be very surprised if that didnt push the prices down a lot

cheers reaper, was going to start with grabbing the case and dvd drives etc, and try to hold out on the other parts till closer to xmas, but with 6 kids (4 step kids and 2 of my own) Im trying to ease the burden of leaving it all too late then panicking with 2 weeks left that I havent bought anything yet :D

Save your money and get everything in November / December. You will only be spreading the cost upwards!

Yeah, not only that but as stuff gets bumped down to make way for the newer/bigger releases, some of the items nearer the lower end of the spec pile can either become harder to get and/or price go up, which would suck if trying to source RAM and you're already locked in on options due to having bought a mobo 5 months earlier, etc. Might not be much risk of that given the items and timescales, but Olivier's point still stands regardless if that doesn't turn out to be so.

Just keep your money until closer to the time

However if you see RAM/HDD on a dirt cheap offer pick them up, or if that CM 430 with psu goes on offer :D

You may be able to pick up a socket 1155 pentium and mobo at a similar price in late november so you might aswelll wait (:
