Guns/ammo or gold silver ?

Where did the zombies come from? I was thinking more standard apopcalypse, collapse of society etc.

Personally for me it would be about establishing power swiftly and brutally, convincing others that you could look after them.

Hey presto, labour available.

But you would constantly have to look over your shoulder and worry about others coming to get you. A figurehead in those times would be a mixed blessing. Me? I'd much rather hole up with a group of mates in somewhere that is pretty damn solid, and enjoy the electricity while it lasts :D

Well, on my left is a dremel. This could be interesting...

As for the post about shotguns being better for amateurs than handguns, think about the recoil. Handguns have light recoil (obviously depending on make/model), whereas an amateur using a shotgun is likely to damage their shoulder...

I've shot a 12 gauge pump action with slugs in as opposed to shot and it's not a fire and forget weapon with slugs, it's just as hard to be accurate with as a pistol is.

With shot you will hit something easier but whether you do enough damage to stop whatever it is you are shooting at is a different question.

As for damaging shoulder, nah. You might bruise yourself up but that's about the worst of it. The recoil is not that bad.

When it the apocalypse arrives and the shelves are empty, what are u going to rely on ?

Many will stick with stashed gold coins and barter for supplies, but me I'm going to take what I want by force, to provide for my family. I will run sorties to collect supplies. I'm gonna take a toyota landcruiser and will be armed with a shotgun. Tbh I will go cannibal and shoot and bring back humans for the consumption of my family if I need to.

Basically I'm ready mentally to do what ever I have to.

What are your plans for surviving the apocalypse ?

The one thing you are not is mentally ready. For the real world anyway ;)

Set examples earlier on and you should be fine. As soon as you got a bit of cohesion I'm sure you'd manage to be able to survive as a group and they'd be grateful for the leadership.

Selfishness would be detrimental to everyones survival.

It has always fascinated me why so many people, particularly on the more geeky based internet forums have always been so interested in fantasising about the apocalypse and how they would survive afterwards.

It was then explained to me that these people think that it is society that holds them back from their potential and as such fantasise about a scenario with no boundries, when in reality their own failings in this current life that have led them to fantasising like such are the same failings that would mean they wouldn't survive 2 minutes in a world with no boundaries.

What I am saying is that I think my disabled grandma has more of a chance of surviving than the OP who probably couldn't fight himself out of a wet paper bag let alone "be ready mentally to do what ever I have to."

Or maybe it's just a bit of fun?

Not if it's an AA-12 :p
