My computer is running a little hot at the moment when I'm on STO set at maximum settings with full antialiasing. and even when I put them slightly lower the temperatures are still high.

Graphics card (msi 460) hits 65-70 Degrees and hard drive hits 55 and the processor hits 60. If I leave the side panel closed it gets a lot hotter.

Its a small acer matx case, with space for only a back case fan slot, is it necessary to buy a new case? if I did fit a back fan would it make too much of a difference?

Spec: Athlon II x2 3.5Ghz, 460Gtx 1GB, Lepa 500w.
Everything idles @ 40-45

Will those temperatures be ok for a few weeks until I can afford a new case or shall I stick a back fan in?

Thanks.

Your heatsink isn't really "top notch" and having around 65 degrees on a GPU is "normal-ish"

You could try and find software that cranks up the fan speed on the GPU when it gets hot.

Certainly install a back fan, it'll at least give it some clean air.

I had the idea of cutting out a big hole and putting a 120cm fan there, then bolting an 80cm fan on the side, drilling a hole on the top and sticking a fan there and sticking a 80cm fan, should cost about £10 and saves me from buying a £40 case, it won't look good though, and not sure it would work with a small case, would be like a tornado and sound like a concorde.

I know stulid but I've already built it and only have like a tenner left over for the whole month, so adding and modding my case would be much more cost effective, and the eyesore shall be hidden under my table, but if those temps are ok for now, I'll hold off until I can get a 430 next month. so do you think I should get the drill out and add loads of holes and fit fans which will save me £40 or buy a 430 next month.

no front intake. no back exhaust. It's just one big gurgling mess in the middle. Nasty.

Yeah, hacksaw a big hole, put a 120 front, with a protective grid / mesh, that should cool it down a fair bit. A tenner at most. Put one at the back while you're at it. Don't forget the screws.

Well the 12mm fans I linked to are only £2 a pop, so stick two in, and then transfer them to a new case.

Total outlay = £4 + your time with a saw.

For the love of god take your PC out of the case before you take a drill/saw to it. Unless you're ZZZAC than crack on :p

Nothing particularly bad with those temps considering the hot weather. A rear fan would help get rid of the hot air a lot faster, so that's probably your best bet. Nice and cheap as well.

Wouldn't bother with all this saw business. It's not worth the time and hassle and the benefits really would be limited. Just get a rear fan in to tide you over until you are in a better position to get a new case.

still going then

good idea stulid.
what I'm going to get 3 of those fans you recommended, drill honeycomb holes on the top, and the front, fit 2 of those days, bolt on one on the side, and a 80mm on the side, and that should work.

are those fans loud? Don't want them sounding like a hoover,
and shall I have a front and side blower and a top and rear exhaust?
and shall I add another fan on the side for the graphics card? as it does seem to run hot, or will the whole vacuum in the case cool it?

As far as I know, ZZZAC is still running his 14 page build log without a build down in Case Central. Last I heard he was waiting on a refund from an RMA lost in transit from Taiwan.

Back on topic - go drill some holes!
