My new banger :-)

seems like your bmw is pretty useless if you can't/don't want to drive it throughout winter.

£350 + £351 + costs for going wrong = waste of money????

££££ for winter tires = The better option!

Or even better.... stop being a girl and drive the bmw in Winter. ;)

Or fit winter tyres to the 4wd celica, even better!?

Insurance is only 351 for the year. I rather drive this than my beemer incase something happens to it.

But that's what your insurance on the BMW is for? It's not an e-type jag so there's no need to wrap it in cotton wool. So instead of driving a modern car with modern suspension, brakes etc you'll be driving an ancient calibra in quite arguably the worst time of year to be on the roads.

Dare I ask if you're going to put winter tyres on the Calibra or just drive it with the nasty rubber on it at the moment? Fair enough if you crash the Calibra, going to be a bit of a downer if it flies into someones new motor.

Yes, there was definitely something about premature failures on Calibras and Cavaliers, but I think it was mainly caused by incorrect jacking. Read it in a magazine over 10 years ago so I can't be 100% certain!

They go through droplinks like there is no tomorrow......

Sitting down on unheated black leather seats in winter is a massive fail. You'll freeze.

Had the Calibra leather in my Astra when I was young and naive. Cold in the winter, Sticky in the summer and the seats were pretty uncomfertable over any set distance.

Good job its got heated leather seats :D

As for the celica, my wife uses that over the winter as she drives my little girl to nursery and feels more comfortable driving that instead of her corsa.

In terms of 4x insurance, mot etc. I dont mind, i've already got a buyer lined up for the calibra in march 2012. Insurance wise, i've paid a total of £1526 for all 4 cars, which aint that bad.

Why would you spend a load of money on a BMW only to drive around in a banger for half the year?

Either:

a) Realise you are not bothered about owning the BMW and content to drive a shed. Sell BMW. Spend money on things you enjoy
b) Realise you live in England not Finland and that, in all likelyhood, there wont be much snow and if there is it'll be a few days here and there and a load of fuss about nothing
c) Realise that you can buy 4 winter tyres for for the BMW and it'll be better in snow than an old nail with 4 different budget tyres.

a, b or c are all better than your current plan and all cheaper.

To be honest i quite like my beemer. I've always wanted a calibra so when this came up i snapped it up. Winter tyres was always an option but seems as this calibra will not cost me anything(even after insurance, tax etc) as my brother is buying it off me after im done with it.

So maybe next year i'll buy winter tyres for my bmw, but for this year i think i'll have some fun with the calibra :)
