Another US gun rampage (in Ohio)

to be honest i think anyone, be it american or not, who has a gun round is a total idiot

As long as you realise that what your saying has no more weight than the sentence ''to be honest I think that anyone who owns a car is a total idiot'' then I have no further complaints.

You need to open your eyes sir, this poster is a bona-fide LLB (that's a law degree), and a member of a rifle club. If you think somebody is an "idiot" simply because they have a "gun round" (sic), then there's nothing I can say to you that would add to the debate.

And for that reason, I'm out of this one.

a car is a a useful tool for transport, its not like a gun has multiple uses, you cant drive it to work or use it to clean your house, thats a useless comparison comparing it to a car

To be fair, having an LLB definitely doesn't make you idiot proof, I've met a few that confirm that idiocy and an LLB aren't mutually exclusive :p

I am also an LLB. That probably just tells you that we are more likely to be conservative types, and you know what that means...

Plenty of solicitors at my firm own guns, shooting is a very popular hobby.

I wouldn't go as far as saying everyone who has a gun is stupid, but I do think the car comparison is a bit silly.

If you don't need a gun, I don't really see why you should have one.

Cars may be more useful but they kill more people (by an order of magnitude) and what is the utility of an F1 Macleren over a ford focus?

A well placed gun could SAVE YOUR LIFE, how much more useful could you get?

If we were voting for guns to never be invented, I would be totally on your side, but they were invented and some bad people got some and I don't think it is so easy to innocent people they have no right to protect themselves to the best of there ability.

i understand what you mean, but i can guess that america has probably 1 of, if not the top of the gun crime rating

Where is the evidence of this? Have you not heard of more deprived countries in africa, south america etc which have a far greater issue with firearms than the U.S, your talking absolute nonsense.

And stating that ridding the country of guns will wipe out gun crime is absolute nonsense as well guns are so easily smuggled in it would have very little effect to those who wanted to be in a possession of one and go on a rampage as one like this. e.g how about the one which happened in the lake district not to long ago. Plus per person a head in america it is such a miniscule amount and also with the amount of media attention in america news will spread quickly of anything gun related.

If you look at the deaths of gun crime in the likes of Rio, and the city of mexico and the amount of deaths from guns it doesn't even compare. You wouldn't hear about it because it happens on a daily basis. I believe in mexico there are more deaths from gun crime per year than in afghanistan!

look....at the end of the day, they are designed for killing, nothing more nothing less, so why have them around?

Not at all my uncle has a shotgun and has held a license for as long as i can remember for clay shooting as far as i know i don't even think he's ever gone hunting before...

the reason behind me not liking guns, is the lad who got killed in liverpool that rhys jones one, he lived round the corner from where my son lives with his mum, having guns just glorifies it for the kids today, and they think theyre "cool" or "hard" cos they have a gun, i just think its a joke, and it should be limited to military use

I was not really comparing it it to owning a car, I should have explained myself more fully. I simply meant that the gentleman I was responding to had not offered any serious argument at all. I should have used something like ''a toaster'' in place of a car, to show the absurdity of his argument so far.

Then my suspicions are confirmed, you seem to be arguing from emotion.

I am afraid that banning guns wont help your cause, righteous though it surely is. Banning a thing is likely to make the ownership of the prohibited article all the more ''cool'' which, unfortunately, the opposite of what we would like.

I can understand your hatred towards guns but its not going to stop it. People that want to get hold of them will some with very little ease for others it may take time but with there being corruption and smuggling the problem with gun related crimes will never be eradicated unfortunately.

By the way in case you thought i am i'm not pro guns never used one and don't intend to even for fun in the near future

Ah I see.

that is true it was an illegal firearm, but my point is more, due to the american culture, kids think its "cool" to have them illegal or not

I think all kids think they are cool hell i used to when i was at school. But to prove you wrong in your logic there is a town or it may even be a state which has the highest amount of gun owners than any other but has the lowest murder rate relating to gun crime of all :) (will try and find out which it is and where)

have you been to liverpool lately? lol half the kids are wannabe gangsters, they all need lining up and pushing off a cliff

That's a cultural problem then, not a firearms one.

Why should firearms be banned here just because people in Liverpool can't learn to respect them?
