JJ ABRAMS SUPER 8 Official movie Thead

Me and the gf watched this in the cinema last night, we both loved it

Not the deepest story line ever, but it was great. Quite a few laugh out loud moments in the movie, haven't seen children gelling like that in a film since Goonies / Stand by Me.

Battle LA should be jealous of the action scenes in this

7.5/10

Will be buying this on BR when it comes out

Colleague saw it last night, said he was incredibly underwhelmed, it tried to be so many things and failed as a result. He gives it 4/10

Enjoyed it, definitely ET/Goonies inspired. I wouldn't say it was 5* or anything like the papers make it out to be. I'd give it 7/10.

I'm in two minds about it, I really liked the start but thought the end was weak - not really weak just predictable.

Excellent use of the sound system though, almost an IMAX experience in my local cinema and I'm really glad that they chose not to film it in 3D.

Im with you on this one bledd.

Then again, considering this forum loved the film Sucker punch, when everyone I have spoke to in real life said it was a load of **** (myself and g/f included, we would have walked out, but cba to get up, and I still had popcorn left!) its hardly surprising they hated this, and anyother watchable movie.

Colleague says it was too kiddy to be an adults film, and too adult to be a kiddy film.

I'd disagree. If I saw this as a 10-12 year old it would have rocked my world. As an adult who still loves that stuff as much as I did as a kid, it's no surprise to me that I thought it was great as a grown-up too. :D

I thought it was a good film. I'm a life long fan of films like the goonies, lost boys, labyrinth etc. But I believe this is suitable for adults too, I can't see why not I thought it was really good, capitvating in that JJ Abrams way, and had a lot of his visual signitures, the speilburg elements were also very evident too. Id give Super 8 a 7/10.

Saw this tonight, thought it very good. Almost my film of the summer (which is F&F5) but certainly as good as Thor and better than X-men first class. highly recommended. 8/10!

It's basically a massive homage to Steven Speilberg :)

Loved it, saw it yonks ago and really enjoyed it, will see it again at some point with friends.

Watched this at the Birmingham IMAX on Sunday and have to say I was blown away. I made the same E.T/Goonies comparison as others have which got me thinking will this end up having a similar reputation as a similar classic? If not why?

Just saw this at the IMAX. Probably the best film I'm seen all year in terms of execution. Films these days always feel so rushed, haphazardly edited and lacking heart, and while this may be a complete, if grittier, homage to those 80's Amblin films (Spielberg being heavily involved and all), not without it's flaws, it was still better than any of the regurgitated sequels, superhero films or anything in that vein. Even the Telegraph's movie critic guy liked it and he's the harshest reviewer ever (although I do tend to agree with him most of the time).

I thought the big fella could have done with a little more screen time and character interaction as he only really gets one scene to display a bit of personality, other than being tetchy lol, and the father characters redemption cycles are far too hastily done, but other than that it was a very well put together film, and it's nice to see a movie with kids as the main stars that was serious.

That kid with the firecracker obsession though... how I wanted him to get squashed.
