BULLDOZER COMING IN SEPTEMBER!!!!

ok i get what u mean.

but who to say a CH V won't oc further...

even if a am3 board can oc a BD to the same, i really think overclocking a BD on a am3+ will need less voltage than on a am3 board for the same oc

I'm looking forward to challenging you with my CHIV gareth ;) I've not got owt to lose as I have a buyer lined up for my CHIV and 1090T already lol

I'll be going for top end BD as soon as they are released. DARN IT AMD - BRING IT ON ALREADY

Different chips invalidates the challenge. He could get a much better chip, or you could.

tbh my ch v overclocks my 1090t better than my old am3 board did

not sure if it's due to having better quality voltages or due to chipset.

I will be upgrading in November, so i'm interested just to see how good these new AMD Cpu's will be, at the minute i'll be going from my overclocked Q6600 to an I7 2600k, but it might change between now and then!.

There will be itx boards for these yeh?

I am looking to replace my Phenom II 720 even though i dont need to :D and a itx system that has one of the cheaper BD quads could be a nice upgrade.

Lga2011 is just going to be horrible, flat out, whichever way you look at it. If you need every ounce of CPU power you can get for work, it will probably be great, but a quad core LGA2011 will be insanely expensive, quad channel memory you simply don't need, a premium on the quad core, overpriced mobo's and not ground breaking performance.

For gaming, and 99% of home use the difference between a Sandybridge and Sandybridge-E system will be felt only in the pocket, and not at all in usage.

Infact there will be area's where Sandybridge-e is SIGNIFICANTLY slower than a normal quad core Sandy due to quicksync(or whatever the heck its called, its late :p) encoding being done on the on die gpu, Sandybridge-e without that will be way way slower for a lot of encoding jobs.

This is questionable, how many of us actually NEED that much horse power ? :)

I think LGA2011 will change the way we see things, hoping it'll be another i7 920 all over again. Quad-Channel memory should rock too.

Quad Channel just isn't remotely necessary unless you're on a dual-socket setup.

I think 2011 will make much less sense than 1366 did for much of its lifetime, for the 'enthusiast' segment. Simply because, Bulldozer or Ivy Bridge hexacores will offer at least as much performance in 90% of task, possibly more.

You do have a valid point.

If the first chips on LGA2011 aren't on IVY then it might not be worth upgrading. I might hold off till IVY comes on LGA2011.

We don't know that there'll be a Sandy Bridge-E CPU priced at ~£220 like there was with Nehalem. If there isn't, it clearly won't be worth it for gamers.

I posted a report on SB-E a while back.

They are enthusiast chips with enthusiast prices!

I doubt there will be any thing available at the £200 price bracket.

More like £400 +

Rumors have it that the base sb-e will be similar to the i7 2600k (3.6ghz quad with hyperthreading, 10mb cache but partially locked multi), so £400 would be a bit optimistic of intel.

edit: this site thinks itll be priced similarly to the 2600k

Intel are releasing Quad channel memory? I though triple channel had timing issues already...

I like the paper specs but no solid gaming/transcoding performance so until then. I'm waiting with baited breath.

4.2GHZ isn't to all the cores, so 4.5GHZ stable on 8 cores may not be realistic.
Though, it could be, we have to wait.

Well it means that each core is guaranteed to operate at 4.2ghz, overclockers will obviously disable turbo core and wack them all up to that speed. :D

As long as the motherboards PWM can cope I shall expect 8cores at 4.5ghz, heat will probably the biggest barrier to overclocking.

Heat

I guess I'll need my lapping tools then :)

Mirror - check
Tape - check
Fine sandpaper 600,800,1200...- check
About 3 hours of spare time - check
