Just out of interest how would you protect your shop?

A member of my family owns a opticians, he has spent 4 years building it up and around a million and is only just about to start possible seeing a profit if he is lucky. It would devastate and distort him if they looted it :(

Get friends and family to hold vigil at night, armed with rudimentary weapons, put everything they can into the safe, make sure the insurance policy is in date?

just watching the bbc feed now, some hooded people jsut trying to smash the ladbrokes window. While the police aren't capable of doing anything. :(

Another black community representative calling the Police racists on Sky.

This is the real cause of the issue tbh... Not the police but this community itself and the view of the police/society they give to young people within the community. Even these apparent 'community leaders' come on TV and make complete fools of themselves playing the race card and acting as though it was still the 1980s.

The real problem isn't poverty, plenty of poor communities exist within London, it just the attitude of the people within these communities that is at fault.

The previous community leader for example on sky who marched up with 150 or so people in the early evening to make a generic unrealistic demand for justice and then said they didn't believe a chief inspector talking to them was high up enough and demanded a superintendent... The police have been making serious efforts to engage with and pander to the black community and its got to the point where these muppets perpetuate the belief that they're deprived victims of society and are entitled to make unrealistic demands to the Police.

None of these guys are exactly Martin Luther King, its hardly a civil rights protest and neither is this incident anywhere near a Rodney King type incident. These 'community leaders' are just badly educated idiots who, if they're a good representation of the black community in Tottenham, certainly explain why these teenagers are out of control.

Not much good when someone lobs a petrol bomb at your group or a much larger group decides to get a bit violent. Rudimentary weapons won't protect you from bricks being thrown either. Tis probably better to lock it up as best you can and GTFO of the area...
