Maybe work for tomorrow, but if they call a curfew it might keep people out and increase confrontation.

The state cannot force the whole of London to stay in doors, it doesn't have the man power.

I'm just thinking about this, isnt the government the insurer of last resort for all property damaged in riot / civil disturbance? I'm sure most insurance companies have a clause that means anything damaged in a riot is not covered? So the tax payer will end up footing the bill for this also?
 
Can someone explain to me why the Police cannot draft in help from the Armed Forces for man power?

Or even why they are not flooding the crowds with CS gas or something?

The videos of trouble makers I've seen have been pretty accurate of the race demographic of the particular areas! Stop hijacking this issue to try and get a cheap shot you bigot !!

Pretty obvious the police have a tactic going on, maybe because it's the lead up to the carnival they want to keep things calm and not escalate things. Also the berating in the press after the student/G20 violence they are not wanting to repeat the headlines.
