Riots in Tottenham, London! (NO RACIST COMMENTS)

I think the Met should be 'evaluating' those Taser X-12 shotguns in a riot situation. They would certainly reduce the numbers willing to run up close and taunt or throw petrol bombs.

As for the lack of hardware, as the military sector is our largest export market I'm sure the manufacturers will have all sorts of non-lethals in their inventory that could be loaned to the police or military for evaluation / demonstration purposes. Then we get to demonstrate British ingenuity in front of the worlds press and get a few export orders out of it too. Profit!

We do have some awesome hardware in the military for dealing with riot situations. We have been using them in conflicts for years. They have seen action in northern Ireland, Iraq and Afghanistan Tear gas and batton rounds are a very effective non lethal way of dispersing crowds when used correctly.

In your opinion no one caused them to riot. After all, this is a subjective thing and you are taking your position again.

They are responsible for their own behavour, but that is not to say that there cannot be significant social impact on conditioning. To ignore it, or even the potential, is political dogma.

Yes, we know this. But I'm asking why this has occurred then, the catalyst. Because this is not happening elsewhere, and people keep pointing too 'just because' or 'Black'. That isn't an answer.

No it's not, it's to prevent mental convervatives with crazy ideas about the state from riding rough shod with the 'there is no such thing as society' pish.

its just the attitude they have

I would like a better car, but am not just going to march out into the street and steal one...I will work to save and then I will be rewarded for my hard work

some people seem to think the world owes them something with giving nothing in return

It's almost as if Joshy thinks if you are in Social Circumstance ABC you can just give up and use it as a crutch or something.

Joshy, I guess you went to an inner London school. You seem to want to go on and on about how horrible life is, so I'm guessing you had a tough time as well.

But... whats this? You... are sitting here. On a computer you bought for yourself. With a full time job you secured for yourself. You are not smashing up cars or setting fire to things.

You are therefore proof that we are right - it's just crap mindset and excuses.

You're right.

I've not had it easy myself but I don't let my past horrors define who I am and continue to live my life.

These riots will achieve nothing, nothing positive can be gained from this.

These guys only want a better car .. to burn :O

Down my end at Whitechapel & Brick Lane, the local bangaldeshi youths and the muslim communities are holding their ground. Brick Lane restuarant chefs are out with their butcher knifes. Thugs around the East London Mosque got a scare from the community. Bengalis guarding their turf. Good stuff!

I just hope the police react before mob justice kicks in.

Use that minesweeper device that Jeremy Clarkson used on the last series of Top Gear....

I thought a school was a school, can you elaborate?

Not when you're at a school that is so far down the league tables the only teaching staff they can attract can only be described as the dregs.

Not when the facilities that you have to learn in are terrible.

Not when you've got to deal with friends being sucked into a life of gang culture, or drugs, or alcohol abuse

Not when you don't have the support of one good parent, much less two

Not when it is effectively programmed into you that you will fail at life and yet again continue the vicious circle that you were born into.

Etc.

So no, not really.

Meaning what?

You are therefore proof that we are right - it's just crap mindset and excuses. Yes, things could be better, but this is no excuse for what is going on. None at all. It's perfectly possible to not be a criminal degenerate just because you didn't go to Eton.

I have a number of friends from inner city schools and some generally very rough areas who have done very well for themselves. I completely agree with you.

I don't get how Joshy can use any of that as an excuse for mindless violence and criminal damage?

Not just East London. There are other areas where close communities (often ethnic minorities) are effectively out in numbers indirectly intimidating any potential looter.
