i get the outnumbered part but surely the whole point of defence mechanisms such as gas, water, bullets is to even things up to the point of being in control even when outnumbered?

Suprised they havn't asked for assistance from the PSNI yet. They get yearly practice at this kinda thing over here, watercannons and all. I suppose a few dozens tangi's wouldn't go amiss seeing as the met seem to have next to no vehicles that can take a hiding.

If you zoom into within the M25 on google maps and hit the traffic button you will see large parts grid-locked. This will cause havock tomorrow morning for people travelling to work with all the debris.
