Went to both my local tescos just after 10pm tonight, one is 24 hour (colney hatch lane) and other is till midnight (finchley central). Both closed with formal printed message saying "we have decided to close after 10pm till the current troubles are over, for the safety of customers and staff." Had to go to a corner shop to buy some groceries.

Yea its not going to happen, they wont be sending anyone from PSNI.
A lot of NI tactics in street involve the larger armoured Landrovers we have to break riot lines. Also the police riot gear is a MUCH better armour and MUCH larger full height shield. Plus NI tacts are plastic bullets, then water cannon or Plastic Bullets till the water cannons turn up.

Im still absolutely amazed by reports saying the their isnt a single riot water cannon vehical on the Mainland.

I agree with you. The senior officers in the Met & Manchester Police have thought about using water cannon before but ultimately ruled it out for the time being (though it has been trialled by them both).
It's useful for things like breaking up lines and stationary groups but for getting people off the streets and preventing what we are seeing on our TVs? I'm not so sure that it has its uses. I'd argue it's more of a protection tool than anything else (as seen when utilised in Genoa).
Not to mention that they cost almost a million quid each...

I'm not sure what the answer is, I'm not even sure there is one. We need to get boots on the ground and ultimately that means sending in the army.
