I'm from that area myself and Bengali, of course there is that. I went out to the Mosque myself. The sense of belonging felt great in the face of such trouble. We have enough problems with drugs/alcohol abuse amongst the community. There is one thing about your own community dirty laundry but this was seen as an external attack. People banded together same way when the EDL turn up and the Police circle them to protect the EDL thugs. I was responding to someone else saying "self interests"... not having insurance on all their goods was one of them.

The area is not new to such riots, a lot of the Asian community here have been through the racist riots of the late 70s/80s - Altab Ali Park and all that and very much hardened from history. They remember that they had to fend for themselves then and this is no different...except most of these thugs were mere kids...a walk in the park for the folks here. Please don't take this as bragging but its how the community sees it.

Also its Ramadan right now, all the Muslims are tired & exhausted from the daily fasting and that makes for very cranky people. This simply wouldn't have been tolerated.

My God! You sound just like the scum that radio 5 has been interviewing on the ground who defend these riots saying they are fighting for ther beliefs.

Should go to sleep. Not looking forward to witnessing the carnage in the morning.

This time tomorrow I want to see footage of rioters getting their heads kicked in. I want to see these little ****s lying on the floor, crying from teargas and rubber bullet wounds.
