Riots in Tottenham, London! (NO RACIST COMMENTS)

I live in Ealing and caught a bit of it this evening, basically all the trouble here was caused by big gangs of teenagers, many of them couldn't have been much older then 14/15 and they were all constantly on their phones coordinating with each other. It was very difficult for the police to manage, as soon as they cleared out the shopping centre the kids just dispersed into the sidestreets and carried on breaking stuff. Someone posted a pic of their handywork here : http://twitpic.com/6363e8

After the main bit of trouble had died down I watched a gang of about 15 'youths' walk down the residential road near my flat smashing windows, attacking cars and shouting abuse at people. I tried to call the police but could not get through. I am still in shock to be honest, I have lived here for most of my life and never seen anything like this. Ealing is a nice leafy suburb, yes we have a couple of council estates and rough patches but on the whole this is a very nice affluent area with a strong community and no history of civil disturbance. I guess that these kids just came here to cause trouble and loot as there are lots of shops and it is a bit of a hub for this part of West London.

Things seem to have died down now after a few hours of constant sirens and police activity, may actually be able to get some sleep. I am not looking forward to seeing what sort of damage was done when I head to work tomorrow, this is a very sad day :(

This guy is to blame :

Well, may be you have missed my OTHER post earlier, I also mentioned the army as well (you can search). It is just now i am talking about better weapons.

Teargas - it works, it clears the area.
Water cannon - it clear mobs, puts out fires
Rubber bullets - i don't think anyone in their own mind would want to charge a line of policeman with automatic weapons, even with rubber bullets. They won't get close. Add those 3 together. 1 police officer is a lot more effective than before with just a stick and shield.

p.s. Why on earth did you bring up the photography thing? Where did that come from ? I didn't mention that at all, all I mention is I said I have a feeling you don't like me. Clearly that is on your mind. BTW, you can dislike all you like. Just like you can dislike Michael Bay but it won't stop him making summer blockbusters. Get my point? :D

'Better weapons'? There aren't better weapons to be used in a mob like this unless we want to turn this thing into a scene similar to Bangkok.

I'm still unsure how you think tear gas will help bring this to an end. It would be useful for clearing small areas for a short while. However it would increase the pressure on emergency services (treating those effected), be a logistical nightmare (getting it to the police, and keeping it safe) and would antagonise the protesters and likely reinforce their belief that what they are doing is apt.
Making angry protesters, angrier will NOT help reduce this. It will reinforce their ideas and potentially bring more people in to help fight their fight.

Water Cannon, well there aren't any in Great Britain. They are also predominately a protection tool. They are designed to protect buildings of importance and prevent people from getting too close. It isn't a mobile tool. The same issues with tear gas apply with water cannon.

I'm not entirely sure on what the legal implications are with the use of rubber bullets at the time. I'm quite doubtful on the numbers of weapons the police have to use as well as the training they'd need. Not to mention the sheer bureaucracy that would be needed to be done pre and post deployment. Sure, it may help prevent people charging the police but not many people are doing that. Charging police isn't an issue, mindless violence, thuggery, robbery, burglary, fire raising, etc etc are the issues atm. Rubber bullets won't stop this.

I brought that up because you suggested I had a problem with you. I racked my brain and couldn't think of anything that would give you reason to think that apart from my view of your food photography so I mentioned that :).

Sigh...
And I always thought it would be Labour that killed this country. Turns out I was wrong, it's "multiculturalism"!
So we have blacks, Asians, Turks etc coming out in force in most major conurbations to rob, steal, destroy and burn with impunity?
My God at least the Poles haven't joined in, but you know why not? Because they have higher morals that extend past their own race.
Anyone spot the difference? Elephant in the room anyone?

The Turks were defending themselves and there are plenty of whites involved as well.

This really isn't a race thing, it's a low/working class thing done through gang culture (black/white/asian) and people who think it's a good idea to do things like this because it's beneficially to them and not consider the wider implication of what they are doing.

Police response seems awful across the board, I never realised they were so useless and under-manned.

They are understaffed and underpaid for what they do.

Add to that the fact that if they do something, there are 5000 lawyers waiting to jump on them and exacerbate lies that the chav scum 'victims' will dribble out of their neanderthal mouths.

It is a lose-lose situation for the Police.
