This is not the sky video I saw of the person getting hit, but I think it's the same incident, same person. It's amateur footage but you can see him getting hit and going down at the end of the clip.

3:20 is where it happens

Jesus Christ, i bet that was probably one of the most scary experiences of that officers life. Hope he's ok.

Hopefully COBRA will come up with some measures that will give these ****ers something to think about.

I'm thinking water cannons, army on standby and oh how i wish they'd use some tear gas/mustard gas (;))

Just saw the pictures this morning...quiet a sight.

Hoping COBRA bring in the army to sort these thugs out. I also hope they get locked up for a very long time.

It will be a miracle if people don't die in some of these fires.

I think they should have had the army in a long time ago, no pussy footing about we are not dealing with peaceful protesters but dirty violent scum and so they should be treated like the animals they are.

This, and now they are all saying the police are "powerless" - if they don't bring in the army this isn't going to stop.

I think the root cause of this is the softly softly PC approach this country has taken over the last 15 years or so.

Grauniad writer Sunny Hundal shows what I mean with this tweet

What do you mean only poor people loot? Bankers have looted our financial system for years!

This handwringing, I am more right on than you attitude. We have an education system where teachers can't discipline, where parents are allowed to let their kids run amok. If you criticise little oiks you are portrayed as some sort of right wing loon.

I think there's some merit to using the significant resources of the army to support the greater strategic police objective. It'd certainly be even more of a PR coup against the rioters, if that was even needed, as the army are more closely connected to the hearts of the public than the police are.

It's just a difficult signal to send to the rest of the world really. The riots can be stopped right now if we want them to be, but it has to be done in a way that doesn't cause unnecessary damage to people, property and our image. We could roll APCs and tanks through the streets, but nothing says "out of control" quite like that.

Unless I miss-understand, Teresa May seems to have ruled out water cannons due to “feedback” from the police.

I think this is a massive mistake tbh. Even if they cant actively chase down these idiots with them, they can clear areas and hold them whilst officers are deployed elsewhere.

My proposed solution:
  • Due to the fundamental disregard for the rights and responsibilities of society by the rioters, they have forfeited any right to the protection provided by society.
  • Make a public announcment, and keep repeating it, that anyone out looting tonight will be shot.
  • Announce that anyone identified as being involved in the riots, and their immediate family, will lose all state financial support for 12 months.
  • Anyone identified as being involved in the riots and currently housed in local authority housing will be evicted, and the property given to families made homeless during the looting

I wonder how many would still be out tonight? I'm not normally one to call for draconian measures, but the scum that we have seen on the streets the last 3 nights deserve no less.

I'm also amused that most of the rioters are far too young to be a product of previous Tory governments, but are clearly a product of the labour pandering culture, clearly showing that sure start, EMA and the like are complete failures, all we have done is bred an entitlement culture with no sense of responsibility.

I'd vote for you.
