I think the problem is the complete lack of force currently being used.
On the one hand is the current "OMG YOU PUSHED ME I'M SUEING" policing (which is too weak), and on the other hand is the shoot on sight idea (*cough* Syria *cough*) which is too strong.
I personally would be happy with something somewhere inbetween. Water cannons, tear gas, rubber bullets, etc. Not the current wimpy rubbish, and not shoot to kill. In the middle.
Well you can drive from the centre of Belfast to Swindon in about 10 hours, including the ferry trip. So IMO yes it shouldn't be hard to get them to London.

Burnsy, I've been saying this throughout the thread. People don't seem to appreciate the risks and legality of using weaponary against the rioters. They won't listen to you.
OcUK armchair generals strike again.
Disperse the majority of the crowd, arrest people who are left causing trouble. The goal in riot control is to change the crowd mentality in your favour, then take out the leaders (by arresting them).

Well safe from these riots at least, I can't comment on the normal risks associated with being across the wrong side of the Forth!

Instances of robbing and looting can be reduced. Some people will think twice if they think they might get physically harmed for breaking into a shop etc. Being soaking wet and bashed against a wall by a water cannon would reduce many people's inclination to carry on looting.
