Generally I'm not for violence, but I do wonder if the police went in harder then the kids will think twice.

It might be easy to hide a stolen XBox but a lot harder to hide a black eye and bruises from your parents.

Of course this doesn't help when the parents dont care, which I assume is a high proportion...

The people that got stopped by the mob in a car, surely if you sped in to them all and run a load over they wouldn't be able to stop you :D

We waited to see whether Cameron would order auxilary forces in but he was way too spinless to do that.

His idea of a tough reaction is to recall parliament tomorrow. What a pathetically weak leader.

When it kicks off again tonight, he needs to resign. Weak, old man.

Go on then, what's your solution?

Clapham clean up by residents apparently told to stop because of health and safety.

You couldn't make it up could you?

You could, so source?

If it is true however, are these people sweeping a bit of glass up or people hanging around the burnt wrecks of buildings waiting to collapse?

There's no point going in heavy handed when numbers aren't on your side. 8 cops against a mob of 30-50 can hold and control a street. Start getting overly aggressive and you'll just end up with at worst, 8 corpses.

lol.

I think the thing that disgusts met the most is that people were attacking the LFB and LAS. Police I can understand having to face violence, we're trained for that, but Firefighters and Medics?

Screw this policing by consent nonsense. That time has long since passed when the local bobby knew everyone on his beat and a cuff around the ear of little jimmy and threatening to tell his parents had any effect.

Maybe its time to escalate this and arm the local police. Can you see the US police standing for having stuff lobbed at them and being charged at in the street?

Because we're focusing on many different things. The Met's Operation Trident to reduce violent crime in the black community wouldn't count towards the "Frontline" officers, but they are. The metrics used to make those statistics are misleading.

They aren't misleading, they are honest. When talking about the need for reform (remember, the police budget increased by nearly 50% in real terms during Labour's time in power), what you claim is misleading is actually the key point. There are far too many officers ensconced in specialist roles or roles that do not require warranted officers at all, all contributing to the 'officer numbers' without contributing significantly to general policing.

The document linked (http://www.audit-commission.gov.uk/SiteCollectionDocuments/Downloads/20100720policevfmreportfull.pdf) uses the example of situations like 200 warranted officers in HR roles, counting towards the officer numbers. I am not saying all specialist roles or teams are unnecessary, but we need a full root and branch, independent review of the whole setup (which has incidentally already been commissioned and is being opposed by the police) rather than simply saying 'no cuts' and allowing the wastage to continue.

m8 seriously r u deluded? its obvious only way to deal wtih this is to stop being weak and order in the tanks to just mow them all down. then using my expert riot control experience, i recommend they magic up some water canon because that will also fix everything.

anything else is weak.

Nothing short of Cameron ordering a nuclear strike would please some of the people in this thread.
