Moving belongings to Norway?

Surely the wages/other costs and services balance it out? Although I can see how getting used to deodrant being £5 would be hard :(

My gf is Norwegian and last summer she saved up £8000 and therefore was relatively rich all this year. She was living with her parents though. Rent prices don't seem too dissimilar to England so it seems food etc makes the big difference. I plan to save so it'll be back to my student days of BOGOF and reduced isle hunting.

Where about are you moving to OP? I lived there for over 10 years. I am actually going back there for the first time since moving back to the UK at the end of the week. It's going to be really surreal, but also good to see my old local haunts and show my wife where I was brought up. We lived in the South in a town called Langesund (south of Skien).

We'll be living around the Oslo area, perhaps in the city.

One thing that is actually quite cheap is rental prices, but then again, I'm used to London prices so anywhere is cheap for me. We stayed with a friend of hers that lives in a stunning, and I mean job-dropping luxurious flat in Oslo and pays about £900 in rent with most bills included. A similar place in London would set you back about 5k a month.

The problem is that everything else is so expensive. You earn good money (obviously) but not miles above what we earn here but prices are miles above what we pay here for things. When we took the train to Sweden I went and bought some bread and baguettes to make some sandwiches for the road. Got that, along with butter, cheese, ham and some fruit and veg. Also got water and a few chocolates. Paid just shy of £48 for all that.

I could barely swallow the food. :p

Average wages are in the region of double that of the UK so it's not bad at all. You just have to recalibrate your internal price-o-meters!
