Mate, I didn't see any shrinking violets in the Met when Ian Tomlinson was being shoved to the ground and cops were literally kicking peaceful climate change demonstrators with their hands in the air.

These cases, the covering up of, and the lack of accountability for them are the reasons I do not feel sorry for the Police at all. Urgent reform is needed, at the moment its the Police Vs the public and I am not a member of the Police. They have done this to themselves.

Makes me irate watching those scum bag thugs rob from that bloke's back pack. I hope they get what comes to them I really do.

I think this whole scenario is quite interesting. Worrying, sickening and plain wrong, yes, but I am curious to see how this ends up if things massively escalate all round the country.

How will the government stop it, will they call a curfew and bring in the Army, will they use more extreme methods of control on those responsible?

I know all of this has been covered inthe thread but I am personally in favor of more extreme methods of control. I don't just mean water cannons and rubber bullets either, but this may not happen because the government will say it could escalate things and cost lives as the rioters will then carry guns etc etc etc. But where does it end, if it gets so far out of control across the country that it ends up in essentially a war between the lower class and the police and military, what would be the answer? Intriguing.

Anyway, I live 10 minutes walk from the city centre of Derby and I wonder if things may kick off here too...? We will see.
A war between black/ethnic gangs and the police you mean.

And how about the Lozells riots? No shortage of police fisticuffs there, either (albeit entirely justified, IMHO). Truncheons saw plenty of action in the 2010 student protests as well.

You can't tell me they're all huddled in a corner fretting about Liberty, that's just ridiculous.

Perish the thought that force is sometimes required and I mean justifiably. I do not mean in the case of Mr Tomlinson.

Huddled in a corner ? No, but many wary of using force in case they are dragged though the courts as Sgt Delroy Smellie may agree with.

The people I know who work in affected areas have been told to lock up a leave the premises by 5:00pm. They were also given a not so subtle hint that rubber bullets would be used later this evening if things don't improve.

ARRRGHHH Boris, what a tool.

Where they getting all these Police numbers from? other cities? so that will be where the violence starts up.

Stulid, that worries me, I have police friends, & I'm told they are being drafted to London, having been called up from not only the cities, but the towns as well, from around the south west.

Its amusing, nice mostly peaceful and legit protests are dealt with by heavy handed behaviour and force, but when the entire city is up in flames...

My local Game. Typical local scrotes, bet people know who they are too. The O2 shop in our high street has just had it's windows smashed in the last hour as well. Would love to force-feed them glass.

I hate all this "Listen to the black community" crap. That BJ interview and that black guy said that several times, seriously jog on.
