A 21-year-old man has been arrested in connection with the large fire which took hold of Reeves Furniture store, in Croydon, on Monday.
Police say he was was arrested on suspicion of arson with intent to endanger life.

source: BBC live feed

sky news say the same, except that it was a 29 year old man

The best possible thing that can come out of this is that people realise that they don't always need the government to do things for them.

We have had far too much interference in local and personal affairs across the board the past couple of decades by the government, its back fired.

Pwned.

Not a single person involved in the looting, violence against police, vandalism, arson and other riot related activities should be excused of any of it. Regardless of their ethnicity, age, circumstances and gender. They should all be punished severely for what they have done.

Sadly I can't see any punishment that would ever correct the problem, repay the damage done to society and communities and re-educate these children so that they realise the error of their ways.

If they are put in prison (which they all absolutely deserve [redacted]) it will probably just push them even further into a life of crime unless they receive substantial education in the facility as well.

This is the single best post you've made so far.

Spot on.

(Yes, I snipped the third paragraph: the rest is great)

That is one of the saddest parts of the whole thing. They're still going to have their ill gotten gains, they're still going to have their freedom and the most they'll get are little community orders or pointless sanctions that wont matter to them one bit.

Community service in the areas they have damaged or destroyed would be my first start. Let them see first hand how long it takes to rebuild and renew things they took seconds to destroy due to callous thinking and actions.

I don't think anything can change the minds of these people. They just don't know right from wrong and I bet they didn't at very early years of their lives. They are the same people at school who made life hell for the rest of us, than when you got out of school you realize how pathetic it all was. They should make half of london into an asylum.

The tory mass media machine are creating mass hysteria with their sensationalist propaganda attacking our rightfully angry and dispossessed young people. They have been robbed of their EMA, witnessed the betrayal of the students by the politicians and lose their right to go to university, seen their youth clubs closed, millions of their mates on the dole or worse still misused as cheap labour, huge cuts in public services and thousands of workers lose their jobs, no doubt including their parents. While a government mainly comprised of Eton public school boys have done all they can to abuse their power to ensure the rich get richer. In this context, is it really any surprise our youth have lost hope and don't much care about anything anymore, since what is being done to care for them!!!

I know I am going to get flamed but this is a quote I saw on facebook maybe the above has a bit to do what is going on.

Prisons overcrowded by weed smokers and the like, another failure we should be embarrassed about, this isnt the US, we shouldn't just start wars over every thing that simply cannot be fought.

Some may be going to prison, but i can bet a lot wont.
