Riots in Tottenham, London! (NO RACIST COMMENTS)

Basically means that they will attempt to stop the riots within the given time, if it "does not work" then we will bring out the water cannon's

Bascially a way of saying to the public, were not really going to use them, but here is a small promise on something we probably won't use.

Yep I doubt they'll be used. Shame.

The social problems will never be sorted in this country until two things are done:

1: Parent accountability. You have children, you become responsible. If they are running around like vermin on the streets, then the parents take just as much pain.
At the minute a lot of parents have no responsibility for anti-social behavior.

2: Social cleanup, these notorious estates need to be bulldozed, these street gangs need to be eliminated from activity. Needs to be a top priority when the county gets a little money again. These pockets of delinquency cost the country money.

They showed statistics on the news last night about unemployment and qualifications bwteen the two places bellow.

The unemployment between Battersea and Peckham was 7%
But the difference qualifications was just over 20%

Nothing to do with race. Its to do with inelegance.

Eh? What a ridiculous non-sequitur.

Ian Tomlinson was not rioting. He wasn't engaged in any kind of criminality, he was a law abiding citizen on his way home!

The police were wrong there, and yet I do think the police should crack down hard on the rioters. It isn't a contradictory position.

Should the individual Police always gauge the mood of the public and media before taking hard action then?

I don't think you can really call this "handled" in any sense of the word.

It seems more naturally died down after causing millions-tens of millions of damage while the police seemingly did nothing to protect incredibly valuable property.

If this is the police "handling" it then i think it should retrospectively be declared a riot and the bill handed to them, maybe next time they'll take action to reduce damage if it's going to cost them.

There wasn't enough officers on the first couple of nights to hold lines and charge and box in let alone protect vulnerable targets. Once more arrived then it seems the spirit for disorder in London was affected.

There are still plenty of targets in London. They haven't destroyed them all in a few nights. It is ludicrous to suggest that all targets were trashed and that explains the calm last night.

It seems to me that extra cops had the decide effect, certainly in London.

What you have to take into consideration is the percentage of the population in those particular areas that are of each race. They are all predominantly black areas, so of course there will be a larger proportion of black people involved.

To me it makes no difference, anyone who is out there looting deserves severe punishment, so far we have come up with:

National Service - 2 years
Community Service - 5000 hours
Benefits Removal

Prison is just an unrealistic punishment as they are already overcrowded.

Also - the Police should team up with Facebook and BEBO and run some facial recognition software, they would soon have everyone involved caught!

Apparently there is a few rumours of Cardiff, these are probably some mindless rumours though. Few people who live in Cardiff reporting they have been hearing stuff in the air.

Authorising the use of Water Cannon is just a tidbit for the braying crowds. A former Met Commander was on Sky earlier saying they trialled them about 20 years back in London and they were completely useless for London.

Haha loving your sig :p

:D

That isn't their policy and they have non white members and political candidates, I know of a Sikh BNP candidate for example.

It always was the general theme... They were taken to court to force them to remove the white's only membership policy (or be declared an illegal party)

I doubt that NI will actually want to give up any of their water cannon. It's still marching season after all. Also, they said they weren't prepared to give up any men. Surely we'd need people that were trained and had used these things in a proper riot? I doubt the Met/Manchester Police have these people.
That being said, I suspect if the Met/DC ask them they'll probably supply one or two. I still doubt they'll do much (but I'll probably be called a bumhole, idiot, male sexual organ again for saying that).

No chance NI will give up their water cannons this time of year! Its marching season for another few weeks and they'll need them to stop the professional rioters! (UK ones look like rank amateurs with all this looting and small groups nonsense).

Either way Cameron is heading dangerously fast down the road to calling in the army...

Water Cannon is totally pointless in the vast amount of cases we've seen on the TV anyway.

I dislike the notion that DC 'authorised' the police to use plastic bullets as well. The police always had that authorisation.

Serious injury and death could easily occur with hard action. Will the public and media be less willing to fry individual officers who are responsible in the current circumstances?

That's the rub isn't it. The police are walking on eggshells because a certain section of society and the media will pounce on them as soon as any rioter gets injured. Personally I'd give them carte blanche, give them immunity from any possible prosecution and let them get on with it as they see fit. The riots would be over very quickly and wouldn't occur again I bet.

It is only because the scum element of society do not fear the police or the consequences of their actions that we see this criminality occurring.

I dislike the notion that DC 'authorised' the police to use plastic bullets as well. The police always had that authorisation.

Indeed, it comes from the previous administration repeatedly hanging the police out to dry when it was politically expedient to do so, while criminalising more and more behaviour. They have now been conditioned that the government won't support them.
