Firefall MMOFPS [2011]

When they first announced it I was interested as it came off as it had lots of PvE content, like the big game play trailer with the mining etc. They now seem to be giving out a much more PvP vibe to the game and looking around thats what it pretty much is. Still, it looks pretty good and I'll be keeping an eye on it, will be interesting to see what the money making part will be, I hate the free to play model were you pay something like 5 pound for a crappy animation or skin, and being a long time PC gamer that grinds me to the bone :o.

It is starting to look like a fancy version of Global Agenda with much better PVE content.

We shall see.

looks very cool shame its free to play though

i don't get it, they r making the game free 2 play, yet there r still people that complain o.O am i the only one that thinks it is great to see games like this F2P ?

why do people have a problem with F2P games ? guild wars 2 is a prime example of how it can be done, with B2P.

I have bought countless MMO's and every single one of them except Lineage 2(might be because i enjoyed the pvp so much) has been shockingly bad, and full of bugs, yet this seems to be excepted, do people not have any standards and just except what ever the devs throw out ? and still prepared to pay for it AOC is the biggest example of bad work, yet people still play it, and moan that it has gone F2P, can someone explain this to me please ?

Most games I've played that went F2P after subscription was because it had gone down the *******. Ones that start with it aren't always good to begin with.

To the point, I've yet to stick to any free to play game.

exactly, and you r not loosing any money when this happens with F2P games so its fine, but when you pay for them you expect the game to be 100% ready and not rushed out, but they r nearly always rushed out, just to make a buck, yet this is the more prefaired option.

A lot of people r even turning there nose up at Guild Wars 2 because they r not paying a monthly subscription! its madness.

I don't mind paying a monthly sub for a game that is worth it, but i would expect to get all expansions for free, like Lineage 2 loved how they done it, free expansions all the way, now on the other hand take world of warcraft, you had to buy the original game box, then pay a monthly fee, and then buy all the expansions.

Youre making the error of thining f2p models are going to be run as a charitable enterprise. Theyre not. The company are going to need to raise substantial revenue somewhere to aid continued support and development, especially when theyre straight out of the box like this. This means the major problem with the f2p model is that you are guaranteed a two tier service. You will have to expend some cash somewhere in order to get to the premium tier.

This is futher compunded by the fact that when it relates to a 'skill based' shooter like this, by making it f2p from the start, in order to be the best you are going to have to pay (presumably items and equipment, upgrades, vehicles, wings? etc) plus be skilled. If youre just skilled with retarded equipment, youll die to the big guns on the average guy flying around your head.

Finally theres the question of ongoing development. Models like WoW spend all their resources on content, patches etc because they know that they are enticing in more subscribers by improving content. F2P models spend more time developing the stuff youll need to pay for, content and items, because those folk paying for it are keeping the game running day to day. the folk getting it for free are just using up bandwith.

Therefore, shame its F2P because it looks well promising. Who knows maybe theyll figure out something new.

So...pretend it's not free to play, and spend a subscriptions worth of cash a month on the cash shop. Problem solved :D

You can't pretend when it shows.
Also, whens the last time you compared some (not all! SOME) f2p item prices in terms of a months sub in any other P2P MMO? they are extorionate to really get anywhere.

Depends entirely on the game, you can't really generalise. D&D Online and LOTRO are both pretty ok to be honest, LOTRO a bit moreso. They've gotten it right though, prices are generally low enough that when you come up against the need to buy something, you're inclined to pay it because it's not a major outlay, and you're already quite enjoying yourself from having been allowed to get quite far into the game.

There's also very little in either shop that allows you to buy your way to superiority over a F2P player, but then they're both PvE games. PvP games are a completely different matter, but again, Firefall looks to be first and foremost a PvE / co-op game.

Course, some companies completely don't get the basics of F2P - AoC's ridiculous prices and Eve's monocle fiasco, for example.

Depends totally on the game type and the dev behind it. It's become to widespread to be able to say F2P = crap game anymore.

depends what model they take look at league of legends it has no advantage to pay apart from you can level up faster.

the only thing people who pay can get that users who are f2p is character skins which dont do anything other than look different and they are making a fortune.
