My system

i7 920 @4.2
Asus Rampage III
6G Ram
6950 in crossfire.

if it worth upgrading to a Intel Core i7-2600K and different board ?
Or waste of money ?

Thanks :)

Ok thanks for that.
My brother wants a system, so for a saving of over £100 + is he better of going for a i7 920 and a Asus P6X58D-E the board £99 in b grade ?

Thanks :)

if your brother wants a completely separate system to you then i would suggest i5 2500k + Z68 Gen3 as a starting point.

if you are using the same system then dont bother upgrading the mobo + CPU

You mean this one http://www.overclockers.co.uk/showproduct.php?prodid=CP-361-IN&groupid=701&catid=6&subcat=1275 and this
http://www.overclockers.co.uk/showproduct.php?prodid=MB-054-AK

total £315 so worth the £65 extra to go with that system over £249 i7 920 setup. but not worth selling the i7 setup and going down the 2500k route :D

Is there going to be a notice in performance difference with that i5-2500Ksetup over the i7.
just u say not worth upgrading, but if buying new go with the i5-2500K
Cheers.:)

So there is a good deal of performance on the i7-2600K (which i just also checked) over the i7 920!! for sure in games! but would people really notice this in the real world.
if so then i would say selling the i7 for an ugrade to an i5 2500k even would be worth it if you play a lot games maybe. so saying No its not worth it if u would notice in the real world, is confusses :D But i guess it's all about would one really notice it!!

Cheers anyway :)

Yes there will be a speed difference but nothing you'll want to phone home about so to speak. Best you save your cash at least until IvyBridge.

There is nothing out there your system can't already do well, it would purely be an emotional decision, not one based on rationality.

Haha, I also have a 920 and 6GB ram and was looking for an upgrade.
I almost considered spending my full work bonus and a few months wages on a Xeon dual processor board so I could get 12 cores, but then figures.. hmm, my computer works right?

Instead I'm just going to spend a bit on some more memory ( As genuinly, with how I work I actually use up 6gb fairly often ), and a 3d monitor.

I'm waiting for some cheaper CPU/Motherboard options to come out as at the moment, there isn't much that is THAT much better than a 920 without spending an absolute fortune.
