Hey guys, as per the title, my system has 4GB installed, but windows system info says 3.24GB usable...

It was saying 2.99GB usable but I went into the bios and disabled memory remapping as I'm no longer using the onboard gpu. I am however, still using the onboard audio... Though I can't see this taking up 751mb though?!?! lol

I've tried with 'max memory' in msconfig both 'off' (unticked) and with it set to 4096 and that hasn't helped either...

Any ideas where I can find my lost quarter-gig?

Cheers guys.

Windows 32 bit has a memory limit of 4gb, but you only see around 3.25 - 3.6gb.

Windows 7 64 bit memory limits are much higher, Home Premium 16GB & Professional/Ultimate: 192GB.

It was enabled by default - I only had 2.99GB usable then lol

It's not the EP35-DS3 board, that's my other system, I'm using my girlfriend's i3 system at the moment - just need to update my sig...

It's a Foxconn H55MXV (unfortunately lol) CPUz tells me the BIOS version is 080015 ...if that helps...

Stab in the dark here but are you using onboard graphics? (Cause onboard graphics will take about 64MB of your memory)

Although it just looks like you're using a 32bit OS tbh.

If my understanding is correct then the addressable memory space for a 32 bit OS is limited to 4GB.

Firstly out of that 4GB the OS has to to provide addressable memory space for the graphics card. If you have a 512MB card then that's 0.5GB gone.

Everything else that requires addressable memory space then takes another chunk.

Whatever is left of the addressable 4GB can then be allocated to the RAM.

It's not surprising that you only have 3.24GB of "usable" RAM. 32 bit Windows effectively can't see the rest.

Thanks for the suggestions but no, I'm not using the onboard GPU, I've dropped my 4770 into the i3 system as my E8400 system has been retired for now (glad I didn't sell the P182 - got somewhere to store it lol)

System spec is:
i3-550
Foxconn H55MXV
4GB SpecTek(??) RAM
4770 512MB
Onboard Audio (that wouldn't use 750mb surely lol)

Never checked the RAM manufacturer in CPUz before... could the fact I've never heard of them have anything to do with it not working properly? Plus it's only running at 666MHz... how ****ing lame is that for a DDR3 system!? My old DDR2 Dominators were running nearly twice that speed...

(on a seperate note, would my audigy 1 be better than the onboard? as it's a bloody old card...)
