Is there any difference between the USB and 3.5 mil jack ones?

I've heard that USB headsets can be fiddly sometimes or is that not the case?

The USB one has an integrated 5.1 soundcard, iirc. Very tempting offer, I've been looking at new headsets for a while :p

So this card with 3.5 mil jack ones make a solid choice then? As opposed to just using on-board?

Can't say that I've ever messed around with sound cards at all really.

It will make a very noticeable difference. Far superior to my onboard sound and my motherboard is a top of the range Asus, who make the soundcard.

The USB cans have a built in soundcard, which, as you can imagine, cannot be all that great as it is inside the headset.

Xonar is a doddle to install as well. One of my best purchases over the years. :)

Great, thanks for the advice, ordering now. Just wish I could get OC to deliver them both at the same time.

It may make a difference. I've gone the other way, from dedicated sound card to on-board (Realtek ALC889A). Didn't notice much difference.

It is possible, depending on the equipment you came from.

I went from a Creative Sound Blaster X-Fi Xtreme Audio to the onboard on my Crosshair IV, which was noticeably better.

I then bought the DG and noticed the difference a lot myself. Was strange hearing sounds in BC2 that I had not heard before.

The problem with the USB ones is that you can only use them with a PC....

Where the 3.5mm jack ones you can use with anything that has a 3.5mm headphone output ;)
(I.E TV's , Ipods , HIFI , mobile phones, AV amps, etc etc )

Whereas the benefit of them is that the USB cans provide 5.1 audio on a laptop :)

The advantage of the USB ones is that you can have speakers plugged in through the jack and switch between them quickly in software without unplugging anything.

Sweet, that was my only concern about these - I'd rather have them plugged in at the back of my computer than at the front. Being able to switch to the speakers without getting under the desk is ideal.

I can do that with just analogue cans. I just use the Xonar DG with its front panel sensing jack. I just plug them in and out. Output source changes to which ever. Also you can use the drop down in the Xonar software if i wanna leave them plugged in all the time.

I prefer the sound output from the Xonar DG with its headphone amp and Dolby Headphone. Thats just my opinion, tho.
