So a carton of cigs is £14 then I would be paying around £20 a carton after payng tax (50%)
You're allowed to bring 200 cigarettes from outside the EU without paying any tax.

Assuming you paid cash there's literally no chance of them finding out you bought it when you were there, short of putting your face on the national news.
Just buy it when you're in the US/Canada. Take it out of the box and put it in your hand luggage. My sisters boyfriend did it about two weeks ago coming back from Florida. Seriously, it will be cheaper. Screw the duty free.
Who the hell declares stuff at customs? Seriously? I highly doubt you guys have or would EVER declare stuff to customs. My parents always bring back like double the cigerette allowance too. Pretty sure they brought back like 2000 with an 800 allowance.
I have never, ever, EVER declared a purchase I made out of the country and brought back with me. Who does?
Dixons duty free is a scam. You're better off buying it from the US.
Well aren't they great.
However if caught they would lose all of the cigarettes and given a fine.
So although they are happy about how they "tricked customs" I'm sure they wouldn't be too impressed if they lost all of their cancer sticks and got a fine on top.
Typical example of "what I'm doing hurts nobody" without looking at the bigger picture.
An excuse your average software pirate uses.
