Hey all,

I have a budget of £670 to purchase parts for a gaming PC and to purchase a monitor. Is it possible to get a build which can play most games on high/max with this budget? and a monitor? I would really love to play top end games on this PC, specifically BF3 and FSX. I'm slightly annoyed that my budget has to be cut to get a monitor though. :(

Even though I haven't got any experience in OC, I am keen to do it straight away, CPU and gfx (cooling?). I dunno if I should think about SLI/Xfire in the future too, any suggestions?

I would prefer a Nvidia gfx card, but the amount of performance you get for price from an ATI card is much better. I dunno. I think i'm asking too much for this budget, anyone care to prove me wrong? :p

Please help me. Sorry for an essay...

HerpDerp - I do not require an OS or a keyboard. I do have a crap mouse however. A new gaming mouse would be a bonus but on this budget i'm not too worried atm. Also I think I'm going to need speakers as well (if the monitor doesn't have them built in). If there is anything I've missed please ask me!

I was also thinking, what about scrapping getting the speakers and just get a headset? I'm thinking of buying my build etc next Friday. I really would like to include an 15 2500K for overclocking. Can it be done - also getting a good GPU etc.

They are about the best you will get for the price....and yes they are very good should manage all games 1920x1080 maxed except for Crysis/Metro 2033 but still play those really good.(who cares about two games anyway that even high end pcs can struggle with :p)

sits patiently for stulid to wake up and flash his case about-

Those specs are nice :), decent GPU and CPU, I'd change the CPU Cooler too a Silver Arrow though

Hey guys,

When I started this thread I was thinking of using my budget to get a gaming PC build AND a monitor. My dad has told me he can get me a 720p HDTV (Tevion Brand) 19inch LCD TV from work for free (new).

Now I was thinking, if I use this TV, I could get a far more powerful build, spending all £670 on it. In the future, I could buy a full HDTV to benefit from the graphics.

Now imho I find the 720p graphics ok. I game on my laptop (720p) and I thought some of the graphics were really good. I've heard all the trouble about under/overscan but I have also heard that ATI graphics cards have settings which you can adjust to resolve this?

Here are the specs from the manual I recieved:-

Power Requirements TV -- 100-240V AC 50/60 Hz (33W).
Standby Power -- <1W.
Screen Size -- 19" (47cm) diagonal actual size.
Case Dimensions -- 465 x 355 x 180 mm inc base.
Weight -- 3.89 Kg's.
Screen Resolution -- 1366x768 pixels.
Colour Systems -- PAL, SECAM.
Sound Systems -- BG, I, DK, L.
Audio Output -- 2W Per Channel.
Tuning -- Analog. Band 1, Band 3, UHF Digital UHF.
Firmware -- Sunplus 7050.
Inputs -- Scart, HDMI, VGA, CVBS, L/R Audio. PC Audio. Y,Pb,Pr,S- Video.
Outputs -- Scart, Headphones.
OSD Language -- English.
Audio -- Nicam Stereo/Mono (Analog).
Wall Mounting -- Vesa Standard (100x100mm).
Remote Control -- Infra Red Default Code 0000.
Remote Control Batteries -- 2 x "AAA" Cells.

Now, is it worth giving this TV a shot? It's going to be a while before I ever upgrade my PC, so I may as well get more horsepower in the build now? I really value peoples opinions. :) It looks rubbish, I know, but will it do for a year or so? For gaming and general use (web surfing etc). :(

The specs are so crap, that I'm embarrassed posting this. :(

Its use-able of course, and as its a tv it will come with speakers so you could have speakers or use the on board ones, you could probably upgrade your motherboard :)

Hey,

I have heard loads of bad things about using LCD TV's (720p) for PC use, especially using the HDMI port for the PC. :( I dunno what to do. :S Looking in the manual, there are extra features for PC use such as H Position, V Position, Phase, Clock, and Auto-Sync. These will probably help me improve the image quality. The only problem is, is that these are only available through VGA. VGA doesn't support 720p i'm guessing? Wouldn't it use it's native resolution of 720p for VGA?

I don't suppose being able to play my PS3 fine on the TV helps does it? Won't the display be the same as the display I get from my Ps3, as I'm using HDMI? I give up, I really don't know what I'm doing.
