Hi there,

Hoping you guys and girls can help!

Hoping to spend Bank Holiday weekend in Newcastle go out saturday and sunday?

Can you recommend where and what? I've heard Gateshead is where its at?

Any help much appreciated :)

Thanks

Depends what you're looking for really, everywhere around here is jam packed on a Saturday/Sunday, especially on a bank holiday.

Bars around The Gate are pretty good if you're wanting to stay around the city centre, but don't walk too far down the road that it's on or you'll end up in the Bigg Market which is an absolute mess of a place.

Slightly more upmarket is the diamond strip which has Koos, Perdu, Revolution and whatnot and they're slightly more upmarket, Tokyo which is sort of hidden around the corner from the main street does some nice cocktails.

Other than that you have the Quayside which I haven't been to due to being a filthy student. :)

Gateshead is no good for a night out (unless you're a local). That much I can say for sure - apart from two decent indian restaurants in Low Fell.

What kind of weekend is it? Stag do? A couple of mates? A couple?
That will make a big difference to the suggestion!

I must say, I lived in South Shields between January and the end of July, and would nip into Newcastle quite often for a night out, and not once did I have beef. The locals seem pretty friendly in my opinion. :)

But then again, I mostly did hit up the old man real ale pubs, but we would often end up in a bar or club somewhere round The Gate, whilst many a night ended in the City Vaults.

If you are after decent beer and live music, then head to my end of town; Ouseburn. You have; The Cluny, The Free Trade, The Tyne Bar, The Ship In, Cumberland Arms and Tanners. All pretty good, but the Tyne bar is the best imo. Always has live music on a weekend. :)
