Our cat is killing far too many birds

Feed it more food and get a bell for the collar. My parents cat did this a lot, they sort of go through phases..kill stuff for a few weeks then get bored then start again. They dont just do it as a present, they also do it cos they are hungry.

Never said this before, but your sig is to big

my cat use to bring frogs in all the time and torture them frogs scream like children when there being killed its kind of horrifying, his best catch though was a sparrow hawk didnt kill it but manages to take it down and guard it as it layed on its back going into shock had to get rspca out to collect poor bird.

I've had a few birds recently since my kittens have grown up. The problem I have is the feathers and blood splatter everywhere and I mean EVERYWHERE.

What is worse is they bring them inside though the cat flap and let the bird reek havoc in the house!! Mice aren't as bad, usually find just the top half of the body in the hall or living room. It's not a problem of epic proportions for me at the moment.

Collar with a bell is the ultimate fix. It drives ME mad hearing cats with a bell, let alone being the poor animal who has to put up with it 24/7. So I don't bother. It would be the true test if your cat can hunt with a massive disability though.

Tie it's front legs together. Cable tie should do it.

Nothing like a tripod cat to stop dead animals from arriving in the kitchen.

lucky you. before our cat was run over :( all we got was massive frogs and huge lumps of pond weed from out neighbours pond.

would much rather have mice and birds than a screaming (or headless) frog

the more skilled your cat is, the more animals they will kill - it is a way of them showing you how good they are - they are leaving you presents to make you proud of them

i am always proud when my cats catch birds/rats :D

BTW, it is meant to be very bad to punish your cat for killing animals as it is their way of saying thank-you for being such a good owner

Please, it would be a miracle if a cat actually cared about it's owner. It's just an instinctual thing.

i dont see the problem tbh, birds and mice are vermin creatures.... your cat needs a medal if you ask me lol

I see cats as vermin. Do i shoot on sight?

I would much rather see a nice selection of birds and mice, than a horrid cat.

So cats get a golf ball thrown at them, on entry into the garden.

We had a few mice in our kitchen last year, they were behind the cupboards where the hole for the sink goes outside, locked in the cats in the kitchen a few nights in a row. No more mice since :)
