Everyone’s move to Australia

I know about a dozen people that have moved to Oz in the past 10 years or so. a lot of growth in the oil and gas industry recently.

I have friends moving there is a couple of months and my cousin wants to move out there.

According to an Aussie I used to work with in the major cities the job market is booming because "we haven't had a recession" and although property is expensive, wages are higher (average >£40k/year) and the general cost of living is allegedly lower.

Worth noting that the aussie dollar has strengthened massively in recent years, currently ~1.57 to the pound compared with 2 a couple of years ago when I went, and 2.5 not long before that.

So overall I'd say unless you want to take a load of money out of Britain and get shafted on the exchange rate, it looks an attractive option.

Too bad the internet sucks balls. :(

I've spent 6 months in total living there. Still wouldn't move there, although I agree it's a better place to bring up children than the UK.

Too flippin' far away from anywhere else. I'd rather move to France.

Britain is hardly a bastion of quality connections either. Who cares anyway, most broadband services are 'good enough' and you can live the high life on your phat salary. Australia in theory should offer more than you'd get from faster internet.

England isn't THAT bad, if you can afford to find a nice house in an idilic village with a good broadband connection and good transport to one of the bigger cities then it's fine.

£200k for a 2 bed flat in a crappy suburban area in the city when trying bring up children, no, just no.

My sister is moving there in a few weeks. I know others who have.

I wouldn't mind going myself but I doubt i'd fit the criteria.

I lived there for 2 years before moving back here for numerous reasons.

Loved it over there and i am likely to move back after college/uni. I have plenty of family over there and my auntie who moved out after me,mum, dad, sister got a full visa and now residency :@

Loved the weather, atmosphere, lifestyle, people and generally everything. As for people saying spiders and snakes i lived way out in the countryside (family lived in city in UK so wanted change) about 2hrs away from Melbourne and didnt see one snake, a few spiders but no bad ones. Might just have been lucky but even my friends whos families had farms etc said the same..

Internet access has gotten a lot better over the last couple of years. Optus cable is quite competitive now.
