I just completed it again this evening. It was probably 8-9yrs since last played it!

I really enjoyed it, played as a psycho killer, no tranquilizer darts or incapacitating for me, I killed everyone including a lot of friendly npc's!

Graphics didnt bother me in the slightest, you stop noticing them after a few seconds as you are caught up in the task at hand. The only times you get reminded how dated they are are during cut-scene conversations because there is a pause in play.

Anyone else going to do a playthrough before the new game comes out?

I am going to do invisible war next. I remember enjoying it when it comes out. I am interested to see why it was considered disappointing in comparison. I am a couple of hours in and don't like the inventory system so far!

Sadly even tho its one of my favorite games of all time I can't get back into it, the graphics absolutely kill it for me :( and I've tried. Probably because I do a bit of game development in my spare time and every blocky bit of geometry, mis-matched/aligned texture, hard texture transition, etc. catches my eye.

There are some graphical mods that might help bring it up to date - I didnt bother with them though.

I gave them a whirl, while they increase the texture resolution the geometry is still noticeably blocky and some of the shaders look out of place - IMO they only serve to reinforce how dated it is graphically.

how many hours to complete?

I cant even remember?

Imp laying vampire masquerades atm and it reminds me somewhat of deus ex but the combat is shocking and the game is less serious more tongue in cheek

Great game, though I do sympathise with comments relating to the dated look of the graphics now. I completed it not that long ago, some parts were nearly as enjoyable as during my first one or two play throughs, other bits were quite poor. I think it was the story and attention to gameplay design detail which saved the day and carried me through, finding little bits and pieces I have never noticed before or had forgotten etc. I've seen various graphics mods around and a screen shot check hasn't left me impressed to be truthful so I've not bothered.

I completed it a few months ago and I started playing again yesterday with the new mod which updates the textures. It's called New Vision Mod and it has only just recently been completed and released. Go check out the pictures. Also there is a video tutorial on how to install it for noobz :)

Install that and play, much better graphics, not that the old graphics bothered me anyway, but its still a nice change.

Having a lot more fun already compared to playing say Crysis 2, even with the new graphics maxed out. Just found ANOTHER secret area after playing for gods knows how many times this game. lol. By the time you leave liberty island, there are like 5-6 upgrades that can be found for your weapons. Never knew about the boat under the water! :D

Surprised no one has made a official Deus Ex 3 page yet, as it will be out in like 2 weeks. We already have a Rage one and that is coming out way later. I feel like making one, but who can be asked keeping it updated and stuff, no time for that, rather play a game with my free time :p

Tbh I find the AI makes it more dated than the graphics. It can be really dodgy at times.

I think someone can just ask a mod to rename that thread...

Big question over the original... will the new on be a linear pile of crap  that will be the deal breaker. First one was brilliant because you had a lot of space to explore / secret rooms etc to find where you could hack them or pick them.

The 3rd one is looking quite good in that regard, at least going by the preview build. Some of the levels are bigger than others so give more alternative routes (by that I mean something other than just shoving a random vent shaft somewhere that lets you bypass all the enemies). There are loads of things in the Detroit Hub too like secret rooms (that you need to break through a wall to reach) and both high and low level hacks.

You're joking. I just bought and installed Deus Ex - and 11 year old game - for the first time 3 weeks ago. It was an awesome game but the entire play-through was jarred for me by the outdated graphics.

What are the chances? :(

Man, could you go and play Half Life 1 for us now? :D

It might preempt the release of the Black Mesa mod as soon as you've finished it.

I'm playing through this again at the moment. I have just made it to Wan Chai and the music is amazing!

I haven't played this since it first came out. Running the New Vision HD texture pack along with the Kentie launcher and it looks pretty good.

I miss the good old days of gamming, no internet DRM, DLC on launch etc just an epic game out of the box and you can go back to it after ten years.

How many PC games that we buy today will be playable in ten years with all this horrible DRM we have today, not to mention so much of many games content is held back for DLC!

That's the great thing about PC games though - someone out there on the Internet will always find a way to get a game to run. e.g. Max Payne doesn't have sound on Windows Vista/7 but someone wrote a batch file to convert the sound files. :D

True, I got Max Payne off Steam in the sale and that was something I had to do. Too bad there is no proper widescreen fix, I hate looking at fat Max.

Back to Deus Ex, I notice some people still play online - I remember how much fun it was planting traps etc and luring people to them. Good times!

I hope Human Revolution turns out to be better than Invisiable War.
