I would like to run SLI, but i dont have the money for another 570, and by the time I would get the money to get one, I would need to get better cards than the 570 anyway.... probably....

So what Im wondering is, if Im not planning on running SLI, is there any point in having a Z68 mobo?

I am planning on getting a SSD, but not til at least christmas. And I know Z68 has some features for that.

What do you guys think?

Right Ok.

Does the fact that I might not even SLI change the motherboard I should get?

Or is it that, that motherboard will offer a lot of other useful features too?

I know that.

Trying to keep it simple for him.

You may know it but the OP may not.

There's not much point in recommending a motherboard, and pointing out a specific feature, unless the OP knows they won't be able to use that feature without replacing the processor.

@danbt, looks like a good set up minus the graphics card. When I got an SSD I was amazed at the difference in load times for almost everything, everything just was really snappy, IMO it's really a must have, even if it's at Christmas.

When you say "Is this necessary",.. what do you normally use your computer for? How long do you spend using it / working on it?

@Surveyor and @stulid,
You've both been very helpful, and helped me out in the past with some questions, which I much appreciate and I am sure the OP does too. It is good to know that PCI-3.0 won't work without Ivybridge, but there is no need to have little digs at each other and bring the vibe down.

Have fun building it danbt, new computer = exciting times :).
Please let us know what you'll be using it for mainly as perhaps the specs could be altered more to fit your needs.

Well thanks so far.

But, is that not a decent graphics card? I was under the impression it was pretty good. I could definitely not go above that price for a different card.

I'm planning on grabbing an SSD and I would like a decent set of headphones that could provide me with some sort of "Surround sound" experience. Though I've heard that actual headPHONEs are better than headSETs. So I am a bit stuck there too...

I want this PC for gaming. I am looking to play BF3 religiously, and the new Deus-Ex, Skyrim; and the likes.

I am a Undergrad Computer Systems Engineering student at the University of Birmingham, so am programming frequently, and occasionaly using 3D modelling packages such as Autodesk Maya.

I understand that with rendering packages, you would recommend using a 2600k but I just do not do enough of it to justify the extra spend.

I ideally want this rig to last quite well for the next 2-3 years. And would like the ability to throw in updated CPU's and Graphics cards in the future (Ivybridge, New graphics series etc).

But with this build at around £900 anyway, I really am completely stretched already.

This build will not actually turn up til around October, so Im aware a lot of things could change between now and then due to the introduction of Bulldozer and the new graphics cards.

The sort of ideal situation for me would be, to look at the new graphics card series, and bulldozer and sort of see that I wouldn't be able to make a rig using the new components, to rival the rig that I posted in this thread due to my budget. And to know definitely that I wouldn't have a better option to get what I have currently listed.

And more importantly, with the new hardware coming out, maybe some of the components I have listed will come down in price slightly?

Please comment on anything I have said, correct me where I am wrong and give me a helping hand.

I'm a bit of touch with it all to be honest, the i've only ever built two systems, both being identical, and that was in September 2008.

Cheers all.
