Were taking a trip down to southern France next Saturday for a week away, and I'm pretty much all prepared. Thing is, my car has plain plates with no euro symbol on them, so I need to get a GB plate. I borrowed a magnetic one off a guy at work, but the rear bumper is plastic and the bootlid is aluminium (doh), so nowhere to place it on the rear of the car.

I hate the thought of having to use an actual sticker - anal as it sounds, I really don't want to end up with scratched paintwork when it comes to removal. Any other solutions? Or am I gonna have to shell out for new euro style plates or something?

just pay £20 for some euro plates ? job done :) Worth it just to avoid all the hassle tbh.

Ill be honest, I didn't know it was that cheap. Do places like halfords make plates up? Can they do it the same day? Apologies for the questions, but I don't want to find I'll have to wait 7-10 days or something, as I leave next week.

I never bother and been to France many times as my friend lives in Le Mans and never had any trouble, however a trip to southern France may be different matter.

If your that worried and don't want to shell out on euro plates use a sticky one and stick it to your window, then you can be more aggressive taking it off or blu tac your magnetic one to the inside.

I drove my Focus to Brussels on a day trip with just one rear GB plate (I dont think you need one for the front). I also didn't bother with all the other stuff. But this time, yes, as I'm going to near Toulouse and will be doing a lot of driving whilst there, I'd rather not fall foul of Monsieur Gendarme, so Im taking everything necessary.

The window idea would be a good shout but I intend to have the roof down for the majority of the trip, so no dice :D
