Hi,

Sold an item on eBay on Wednesday, buyer paid on Thursday. I sent on Friday, all is good yes?

Well I checked my paypal account today and thought what they paid looked a bit low (low cost item anyway) and realised they've only paid for the item. They've selected the collection option from the invoice I sent them. Just to be clear, he sent me an alternate address to send to so had no intentions of picking up.

I've messaged him informing him/asking him he selected collection and could he please pay the postage, is there anything else I could do?

I just looked at my eBay page and saw item paid for so thought no more of it ...

Cheers.

You messed up, hope that the buyer is understanding or swallow it.

Doesn't matter if he intended to pick up or not, you posted it before checking it out

you can send him a request for payment message through paypal

Thanks, I've done this too.

How is this ebays fault ? you the one that didn't pay attention

I hadn't realised before that the payment icon in Ebay means only the item fee has been paid, not postage. I'm sure others have had the same problem where they haven't realised postage fees haven't been paid before ... I'm not a windowlicker fyi.

Seems like a fault on Ebay/Paypals part really, if the buyer is picking it up they shouldn't provide you with an dispatch address.

Like I said Norm I hadn't realised before now that the payment icon referred solely to the item cost. Most probably wouldn't until something like this happened.

If you have selected courier and it shows, "ask seller for details" then you need to send them an invoice and manually enter the extra postage. The buyer then purchases straight from your invoice.

I had this problem recently, but thankfully I actually stated the costs in black and white in the ad so it was OK.

If you have done the same, then you may be able to hold him to the payment, however as you have sent it out there is not much you can do.

Im sure though if you print the delivery label to send then it should only let the buyer pay with postage and not without, sounds like he tried to trick you out of the P and P on purpose tbh.

It's a fault on your behalf, you want to hope the buyer pays up for delivery and if not then tell them they need to pay for delivery or you will leave negative feedback. There is nothing you can do really as ebay won't do anything.

Can't even do that, positive or nothing as a seller now.

Does it?

I just checked the last thing I sold on eBay and when i highlight the blue "£" symbol, it just says "Paid with Paypal on XXXXXXX"

To me, that indicates the whole item including postage was paid  There is no other icon that seperates item cost and postage cost, for me anyway.

Nym,

Yes that's correct. I too assumed it meant postage too but it doesn't. There is no icon for postage cost. I guess in future I should remove the collection option from the invoice, something I forgot to do this time.

Didn't know about the new feedback rules... got a good few items to go up tomorrow eve.

I suppose I'll just keep a watchful eye for that! Already refusing paypal payment for collections, due to some scams I've seen with claimbacks.

New? Been that like for at least 3 years!

When the buyer pays through Paypal, don't you normally get an email called "Notification of a Paypal payment"? Then you open the email and you can see the address that you need to send the item to. If the buyer meant a different address and he didn't bother to change it on Paypal checkout, then I think it's the buyer's fault.

Holy not reading the OP Bat Man! OP sold the item and posted it off to the specified address. The buyer paid for the item but for postage.
