Hi all,

Looking at the Aego M 2.1 speakers at the moment to go with my PS3 for movie watching and general gaming. They'll be going in my top floor bedroom of a 3 story house.

How effective is the bass on these things? If the bass will be sitting on a wooden floor should I put a piece of carpet underneath it? I don't want to annoy the housemates by simply watching a movie caus they can hear the bass through the floor & walls.

Edit: This is a 4 year old house so expect the walls to be as thin as paper. We haven't moved in yet so can't confirm.

My alternative would be to scrap the bass and get Q Acoustics 2010 or Edifier R1600T.

Cheers

The simple answer is yes it will vibrate through the floor, even on the lowest setting. (Aego has 3 bass levels)

I'd say during the day this shouldn't be a problem, but at night or early in the morning it would definitely be annoying.

I'd invest in some headphones for times when you need to be quiet.

As long as the wire is on my HD555's, having them on in bed wouldn't be an enjoyable experience :p

Looks like it's going to be the 2.0's instead then.

Thanks

When I was at uni in a shared house I used my HD595 in bed with my pc on the other side of the room.:p

During the day though I had no problem watching movies or listening to music with the Aegos. It was the day time, people shouldn't be sleeping!:D

You could go for a good quality headset and then there would be no household problems but you can still get the quality.

However, it is generally the base that penetrates the floors, so at night just turn the base low.

If you like your bass at times when you need to switch to headphones, then look no further than the Skullcrusher by Skullcandy. The cones have a separate base unit driven by a battery located halfway down the cable in the remote control bit.

Cheers for the suggestion but I'm not looking for new headphones. Skullcandy would be at the bottom of my list too :p

How about the Astro wireless mixamp?

You can free your headphones and use it to simulate dolbyheadphone to across the room. I've got one and it really does the trick, just needs an optical feed - pricey though at £110

You can't go wrong with the Q Acoustics 2010 and i would pick those over all the other speakers you mentioned. Even better would be the Q Acoustics 2020. That would give you more bass, but not enough to annoy people.
