Please spec me a car in my budget!

Focus ST and Civic type R are the usual hot hatch types, but the 350z is more 2+(very small)2 and is really a different type of car.

You need to decide what you'll be doing with the car. For example will you ever need to carry more than yourself and one other? if so, adults or children? Could you get away with a two seater? Do you need 5 doors or will 3 be OK? A Coupé? Is MPG a factor? how many miles on average will you be covering? The focus has a huge rep for being thirsty and from those that own one it appears to be justified, but that's about the only downside for example. You need to work out your criteria rather than 'a coolish looking motor'.

Good evening all,

I have recently put aside £10,000 for a new motor, and I am struggling to decide what car to actually buy.

I want a coolish looking motor, nothing earlier than 2006 if possible.

I am currently looking at a Ford Focus ST-3, Honda Civic Type R or a Nissan 350z.

Can anyone please give me their thoughts on the above 3 cars, and let me know any idea's you may have in my price range.

This car will just be for a weekend runaround really!

Thanks,

JimaaaH

Please for the love of god, do not turn into one of those morons who think its funny to floor it back and forth on a long stretch of residential road especially at midnight or even later. Stupid kids. Have you factored in insurance costs and maintenance into that budget? You may find yourself at the petrol pump far more often than you'd like so keep that in mind.

What on earth about his post even remotely suggests he's going to start doing burnouts up and down the local estate?

I might've jumped the bandwagon but aren't these cars popular amongst the nuisance crowd. Not that I am suggesting the op is anything like that. Hah apologies I've just had too many of them doing it everynight it must be getting to me :D

He sounds like he's more interested in the looks of a car than the actual performance, not once has he mentioned performance, speed, ability or anything like that. I think an Evo would be completely lost on him and the running costs a bit over the top for a 'cool looking car'.

He's probably be happy with a Civic Sport or something, as it looks virtually the same as a Type-R.

An Impreza WRX maybe? Looks cool but not as mad as an STi...

Again, probably a car completely lost on someone who's only requirements are 'a coolish looking car' that's newer than 5 years old

Yet he's specified three sporty cars, so I'm just giving options. And who said a cool looking car is his only requirement? As for age, well, I wouldn't let the right car put me off because it's 1 or 2 years older than I originally intended finding.

He's specified three cars he thinks look cool, one would assume if he was that interested in handling or performance he would have made at least a passing mention of it.

I just don't see that cars like an Evo or a DC5 which are pretty much the most hardcore examples of their respective breeds you can find, are really the sort of thing for someone who is looking at STs and Civics because they look cool.
