Which GPU to get now...or hold off?

Im confused with which gpu to get next, i have around £250-£300 (i'll tell the mrs i've spent £100)

so which do i get ati or nvidia? or shall i hold off and see what comes next?

got my eye on the nvidia gtx 580 but i've also seem the radeon hd6870 and i just dont know what to do.

i'll be purchasing the new card by oct in prep for BF3 so another card could be due then.

btw im putting it into an alienware R3 not sure if that presents a problem with case size?

If you're going to get it in prep, I'd wait until last minute to get the most power for your money. As long as your card works at the min, I'd recommend waiting.

It's a new card, and very powerful and ATI is usually quite overclockable. Also MSI coolers tend to kick ass.

no one has commented on it, how can you compare a 580 with a 6870? thats like comparring a ferrari etc against a ford fiesta etc

Under £300 the refurbed 580 wins, unless you xfire 6870s but then you will only have 1gb of vram.

Yeah, the data is duplicated over cards when using xfire or sli, eg in a scene with 800mb of textures all cards have to load that 800mb to be able to render the scene.
