Counter Strike Global Offensive rumours

Source is indeed very dated now. Even in Episode 2 (back in 07?) I found that it lacked any degree of "wow" whatsover. Considering by the time new Valve games come out, the engine is going to be like 8 years old!

The latest update to the Source engine looks great. Just go look at Portal 2.

Well theres your answer than, you cant judge the reg on a public server tbh.

Only one server really works for me that great. The OCUK one is ok but often when I look down to wonder why I couldnt hit I see choke has registered which makes playing for that minute slightly pointless

The server I do best on I can literally run rings round some players which I realise is not because Im great but mostly this lag issue except its to my favour there

CSS was flawless when it first came out, I found the lag appeared some years in after an update.

Anyway I prefer CSS because it often has FF on and its more about tactics and less about precision HS and fine tuning the network code. It either works or it dont

When CSS first came out I thought it was quite good but over the years I've just found it quite dull, frustrating, and not very satisfying to play. I occasionally jump back into it for the odd game but not often - if I want to come back to cs it is usually to 1.6 - not for the clan side of it but more for 'fun'.

I am all for this Global Offensive. If CS can become enjoyable again, bringing in the strengths of both 1.6 and CSS then they are doing something right. But, in all seriousness the most fun CS was for me, was all versions before 1.5. Over the years the tweaking and such has bloated cs and not the better. It's hard to say which formula is the best, as we all started CS at different points. CS felt its most popular and fun for me between beta 7 and version 1.3 in my opinion, and I personally would like to see that side of CS back again.

Any serious FPS gamer grew up on CS. When CSS came out it was a step back in game play to look pretty, which it did at the time. i doubt this will inspire the players to leave BF3 or COD, niche players are still playing 1.6 anyway.,..

This new incarnation ?? Aimed at ps3 xbox market mostly? Since the emergence of COD4+++ I dont think CS really offeres anything now days that other games do better.

Its the Grandfather of everything really, but its had its time.

I joined cs in beta 2 (heard it was better than dod) and played it solidly through to release but it did get arguabley worse or more stale..

I cannot imagine anything less fun that trying to play any version of CS with a controller.

Finding it hard to imagine a way in which CS could appeal to the console crowd without adding loads of COD inspired gimmicks that no-longer makes it CS anyway?

Whoa there. I just came back from holiday and suddenly there is a new CS? Do we have any solid facts yet or is it just rumour from people who were invited to play?

Loved 1.6 but when CS:S came out I moved to DoD:S for no good reason other than I was bored of CS (never played competetively only on pubs and LANs with friends).

Will this spark my interest again or are we going to see a "console-derp" as Raven likes to put it?

Oddly enough this is the time span i played cs for... got bored before 1.6 came out (think i went to uni), played css when that was realised but i obviously was nowhere near the fanboi status that some people are as i picked the game up happily and thought it was better in every aspect

No from those stats all you can determine is that more people who play games on a Monday morning play 1.6.

in the evening css over takes it.

CSS is more about the tactics, are you mad?

Have you ever watched any of the major CS tournaments? Try watching some HLTV recordings from ESWC, CPL, WEG, ACON5 etc. Even ESL, EuroCup and Nations Cup. You have absolutely no idea.

A lot of tactics / strategies in modern FPS have all developed from what the top EU/USA teams were doing in the early versions of CS.

Watch some of the old CPL matches from NoA, GoL, 3D, SK etc and the tactics they used were absolutely mind blowing. Yeah you had the original lot like MegatoN, Potti, MedioN, HeatoN etc who were all insane aimers, but then everyone caught up and tactics were often what won high pressured games.

Never has the "notsureifserious.jpg" been more appropriate. CSS was a completely broken game when first released and the reason the community is still divided is because it still isn't close to matching the feel of 1.6.

When it comes to tactics everything you see in CSS has evolved from the professional 1.6 players.

Yes but its far from a niche who play the game

oh of course not, even on release mw2 was only getting 90k at a time on steam 1.6 and css were both still solidly in the 40-60 range.

they're good solid games both slightly different for people who like a slightly different but very similar type of game which tbh is great 2 games that appeal to 2 specific audiences is much better than 1 game that fails to appeal to both.

this is sounding like a new CZ so doubt it will archive the same level but i fully expect the next Valve one that comes with their new hl engine to be the same again, similar but slightly different and capturing the hearts of it's own little 40k players for the next 10 years, while 1.6 and css keep theirs.

Never get why people bitch about the cs versions you love 1.6 then 1.6 is your game you love source then source is the one for you, a third option that isn't either?

well you're both going to be upset.
