There is nothing of huge importance you need to know about moving to Guernsey, just that it's a great place to live if you can afford it!
I've lived here basically all my life, was born here then moved to Alderney for a few years before coming back, and I can honestly say there is no where I'd rather of been brought up.
A large percentage of people do drive so you'd be as well to keep your car, not everywhere can be walked to in 30mins contrary to popular belief! Commuting is a pain in the rear as the majority of people work in St Peter Port, the capital if you like, which means traffice can be a nightmare at rush hour - a nightmare for us is a 30 minute drive though, I still maintain the best way to get to work is cycling.
Just because it's a VAT exempt place don't expect it to be cheap, all your grocery shopping is more expensive and we don't have any value supermarkets, we have two Waitrose supermarkets and a few Marks and Spencers, the rest are independent.

This pretty much explains it. Although I'm only 19 so don't know too much about food prices,tax, etc. You've probably seen this already but house prices are pretty high. Also alcohol is more expensive, in a pub expect to pay £3-3.50 for a pint of larger and up to £4.50 for cider. Cigarettes (if you smoke) are around about £5 a pack.
Most of the island are employed in either finance or work for the states. There are a few jobs in IT around for senior staff probably at banks.
The most important advantage Guernsey has over the UK is £1 notes!
P.S: For things like PC components you will have to use OCUK as there is not much choice over here. Also I believe OCUK don't offer free shipping to us

another good plus is websites taking vat off when you order from them.
nightlife is pretty good too on a saturday night round the town area. depending on your age i guess though.

Only 20 so plenty of life left in me
I hear the roads are pretty flat so a bike might not be such a bad idea

Drivings fun if your in a country lane and the roads to narrow for two cars to pass use the footpath if theres no one walking near by and at junctions they have a filter in turn system, Ie first come first to drive through the junction. Free parking every where even in the capital and best of all fuels about 109p a litre and one station I saw a few weeks back when I was there gave 10p off if you spent over £15 in the local shop.
No sat nav unless you have an Android phone then search for mapdroid and you can get free offline maping for the whole island it will show you where you are but not navigate but that said its hard to get to lost just head for the sea and use the coast road till you find somewere you know.

Guernsey? *Cough* Ex-Gsy residents I know who live in Jersey will even say it's a bit weird over there
In all seriousness though I've only been there a handful of times, once for work. Not somewhere I could live personally, it's a very different community to Jersey/UK (IMO) but horse for courses.
At least you can buy petrol on a Sunday now!
