Hi,

I've chosen the monitor witch isn't part of the £1000 -Benq XL2410T 24" TRUE 120Hz 3D Widescreen LED Monitor,

Was interested in buying one of the pre built gaming systems - "Titan Spinosaur" with the gtx 580, ssd 120gb, 8gb memory, windows 7 home premium at £1333- but can i get better?..

I can go over £1000 but only if its worth it, thankyou for any help..

hyb the 120hz in the benq is suppose to amazing for gaming..

yes need os, yes purely gaming, don't need anything besides tower buch

stulid would that be better than the "Titan Spinosaur", for gaming?. thanks

Its certainly bang on your £1K budget.

The motherboard is a Gen3 so has PCI3.0 with a Ivybridge CPU released next year, and will take a second GTX570 for sli action - http://www.vortez.net/articles_pages/asrock_z68_extreme4_gen3_review,2.html

The case - http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=N4XCT9yibwQ

The PSU is Gold rated so uses less power from the wall socket - http://www.jonnyguru.com/modules.php?name=NDReviews&op=Story&reid=167

The GTX570 is overclocked from the factory and has a custom cooler.

If you got more money you can add a SSD

thanks stulid, can you tell me what sli action is?, would it be better to have 2 x 570 instead of the 580 for the extra £150?.. yes im a noob :).. thankyou

SLI is running two cards (or more) to get a almost doubling of power, the idea is to maybe pick up a second GTX570 in a few years (second hand etc) when games start to get more demanding.

Look at the charts from this page onwards - http://www.guru3d.com/article/vga-charts-spring-2011/2

My personal view on it, use the GTX570 and just sell it for the next gen (or the gen after) when you feel you want more power, or pick up a second hand GTX570 for not much money.

The 850W PSU will also be more than enough for SLi GTX580's so theres no worries there.

ok thanks stulid. what would be the max ram i could put in there?, and would more be better?

The board has 4 ram slots and you can get 8GB ram sticks from OCZ, so thats 32GB.

For a gaming rig, 4GB is ample, but with that 8GB kit being just £45 its rude not too:)

Here is a gaming system with a SSD drive and added Blu ray, the 580 I added is on pre order but is due in 4 days so not exactly a long wait. Added a single slot p67 board cause, I could be wrong about this, I think SLI 580's would be overkill for a 1080p monitor as 1 can max out pretty much anything out there

You could save yourself a tenner by buying cheaper memory, but I have the rip jaws and love em so I put them in :D

Oh and remember if you have an SSD drive which you are gonna use as a primary drive for windows don't add any other hard drives to the system until windows is installed. Poeple have had problems with windows being spread over their drives which slows down boot up.

Builder series PSU with a 580? brrrr... Get at least the Antec TP-650 for £65.

I wouldn't get a refurb 580. Bit too risky for me. I know some wouldn't mind and just flog it on fleebay when it brakes, but not my cuppa.

The motherboard is gimped imo. It's OK for budget builds, but not £1000.

Personally, I'd downgrade to 570, and improve the rest if you gonna go SSD.

The ripjaws are unnecessary. HyperX for £45 will do nicely.

And can always save the CPU cooler for later to give more room in the budget.

Stulid's first imo, It's worth getting good quality components. You can get a SSD later (Christmas maybe :)), or a 580 if your budget allows (Gainward GOOD or MSI TF would be my choice).

I also like the LG 120HZ 23'' for a gaming screen. Can't recommend it first hand but seems good for the quality, price and features.

The refurb has a years warranty with it so can't see the problem with it.
Dunno how the mobo is gimped, it does what it is needed for in a gaming build for the budget provided. Fair enough it hasn't got a PCI e for a second graphics card but with a 580 at 1080p are you really gonna need one.
Fair enough about the Power supply, if it is poor then drop it and the rip jaws and get the cheapy memory to make up for the dearer PSU

The spec that Stulid put together with the GTX580 and SSD is almost identical to mine and it is spot on mate for gaming. Playing battlefield bad company 2 on max setting at over 60 FPS. I have vertical sync activated so dont know what the actual figures are. As long as i get 60 fps i dont care :)

personally i'd go with stulids first build, but swap the case for the raven, and the cooler for the thermalright silver arrow.

(i assume the only reason you didnt put the silver arrow in is because its out of stock)

can you spec me olivier, thanks

Stu's is good to go really.

Post your build with your favorite case (mine would be the 650D, or the Raven RV02W-EW / RV02W-EB). There maybe some room for a small SSD for the £1000. Either the £1000 or the £1300 setups. I would take a M4 instead of a OCZ due to my suspicions about their new drives. I would get a cheaper air cooler (Gelid Tranquillo), but the H2O is fine if you want a water cooler. The Gelid will give you 30% overclock. The case is a matter of preference, and for the PSU, you can take a Lepa 850W, or the OCZ, or any decent PSU >750W.

I'll post one when I get home, but it would be pretty much the same thing. I would get the Gen3 motherboard as well, even though it is expensive. I havef the kingston memory and they work as advertise (9-9-9-24 [email protected]) so that's good to go as well.

just curious, but is there any reason why people arent recommending the cheaper MSI GD-65 G3 Z68 motherboard now that OcUK have hiked the Asrock's price up?
